Responsibilities:
Support Students Across a Broad Age Range – Assist pupils from Early Years to Post-16 in accessing the curriculum, adapting resources and tasks to suit their individual learning levels and communication styles.
Promote Inclusion and Independence – Encourage participation in classroom and enrichment activities, helping students develop confidence, independence, and life skills within a respectful and inclusive setting.
Collaborate with Therapists and Teachers – Work closely with teaching staff and onsite therapists to implement individualised learning and care plans, ensuring a holistic approach to student development.
Facilitate Engagement in Specialised Environments – Support students during sessions in multi-sensory rooms, the hydrotherapy pool, and therapy areas, promoting physical, sensory, and emotional wellbeing.
Provide Personalised Learning and Care – Deliver 1:1 and small group support, including assistance with communication, behaviour management, and personal care, tailored to each student's unique needs.
Monitor and Record Student Progress – Maintain clear, confidential records of student achievements, behaviours, and responses to interventions, contributing to regular progress reviews and team planning meetings.
Requirements:
Experience with SEND Learners – Proven experience supporting children or young people with moderate to severe learning difficulties, ideally within a special school or inclusive mainstream environment.
Understanding of Inclusive Practices – Strong awareness of inclusive education strategies and a commitment to promoting dignity, respect, and independence for all students.
Adaptability and Patience – Ability to remain calm, patient, and flexible when working in high-needs environments, including multi-sensory spaces and during hydrotherapy sessions.
Team Player with Strong Communication Skills – Confidence in working collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and families to support student progress and wellbeing.
Basic Care and Behaviour Support Skills – Willingness to assist with personal care and mobility needs and to support students with communication or behavioural challenges in a compassionate, proactive way.
Relevant Qualifications or Training – A recognised TA qualification (e.g., Level 2 or 3) or equivalent experience is preferred; additional training in areas like Team Teach, Makaton, or PECS is advantageous.
Enhanced DBS: An Enhanced DBS registered on the update service or willingness to apply.
