East of England Community Health and Care NHS Trust (Cambridge) – Student Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (School Nurse)Closing date: 09 June 2026 (vacancy may close earlier if a high number of applications is received)

Location: Cambridge, East of England – covering placements across the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough area.


About the role

This role offers the opportunity to train as a School Nurse through the PGDip Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (SCPHN School Nurse) programme, starting January 2027 in partnership with Anglia Ruskin University. You will work closely with children, young people and their families, supporting health, development and overall wellbeing.


Key responsibilities

* Attend all educational sessions as directed by the university, submit assignments promptly and achieve all required objectives.
* Maintain a close liaison with the Practice Assessor, agree a clinical learning programme and identify any concerns regarding progress before they become problematic.
* Understand the wider determinants of health and work to address health inequalities across diverse communities.
* Assess, plan, implement and evaluate individual/family focused programmes of care (universal, targeted and specialist pathways) in partnership with other agencies such as social care and schools.
* Develop an awareness of the Healthy Child Programme, take responsibility for care within own limits of competency and confidence.
* Demonstrate skills in safeguarding, including response to adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and adherence to local safeguarding policy.
* Establish and maintain relationships with families and other professionals in a multi‑agency environment.
* Report absence and sickness promptly to the university and follow local service processes.
* Arrange and attend regular clinical supervision with the Practice Assessor and Practice Lead.
* Adhere to the NMC Code, standards of proficiency, the Trust’s risk assessment, infection control policies and other relevant governance procedures.
* Participate in clinical and safeguarding audits, emergency preparedness processes and mandatory training as required by the Trust or Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Foundation Trust.


Qualifications & Training

* Registered Nurse with current NMC registration (part 1 or part 2).
* Eligibility to register as a newly qualified nurse or midwife before the course start date.
* Practice Assessor qualification or equivalent.


Experience

* Ability to work effectively with children and young people and their families, providing holistic, evidence‑based care.
* Collaboration skills as part of a team and in partnership with other agencies.
* Knowledge of current legislation, national guidance and local policies relevant to the Healthy Child Programme.
* Capability to work independently within health and safety guidelines.


Knowledge & Skills

* Strong verbal, written and IT communication skills.
* Understanding of health and safety guidelines, risk assessment and safe working practices.
* Demonstrated promotion of best practice in nursing care.
* Ability to prioritise and organise workload, balancing clinical responsibilities and academic commitments.


Safeguarding

* Awareness of safeguarding children, young people and vulnerable adults and understanding of safeguarding issues and legislation.
* Commitment to maintain safeguarding competencies and comply with local safeguarding policy.


Disclosure and Barring Service Check

As required under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exemptions) Order 1975, a Disclosure and Barring Service check will be conducted to confirm suitability for the role.

Salary

£32,073 to £39,043 per annum, pro‑rated.
