The role ensures a consistent, transparent and reliable view of progress, risks, dependencies and outcomes, providing quality insight that supports disciplined delivery across a complex, multi directorate change landscape.The role sits within the Reform Delivery function and operates across multiple directorates, including Product Management, Qualification Development & Accreditation, Assessment & Operations, Finance and HR.
It is a specialist authority role without direct line management responsibility. The postholder shapes how governance and reporting operate across Reform delivery by setting and maintaining standards, assuring quality and influencing senior stakeholders and formal decision-making forums. The role is accountable for the design, quality and assurance of governance and reporting.
Activities:
Design, implement and continuously improve governance frameworks, controls and escalation routes to support effective programme and portfolio decision‑making.
Own and manage integrated reporting cycles, producing clear, insightful and decision‑focused reporting packs for senior leaders and governance forums.
Maintain integrated schedules and milestone views, proactively identifying cross‑programme dependencies, sequencing issues and timeline risks.
Define, track and assure delivery KPIs and success measures in line with agreed reform objectives, ensuring transparency and consistency.
Provide independent assurance on the quality, completeness and reliability of programme and portfolio reporting submitted to governance forums.
Set and maintain governance standards, templates and guidance to ensure consistent, high‑quality reporting and control.
Act as the recognised authority on governance and reporting across Reform delivery, shaping expectations and behaviours across multiple directorates.
Provide expert governance and reporting guidance to programme and project leads, supporting improved delivery confidence and maturity.
Champion effective use of portfolio and reporting tools to improve data quality, consistency and efficiency.
To be successful in this role, you will need to demonstrate:
Essential Criteria
Proven experience designing, embedding and operating governance and reporting frameworks within complex programmes or portfolios.
Strong analytical and planning capability, with the ability to synthesise complex information into clear, decision‑focused insight.
Demonstrable experience of dependency and milestone management, maintaining integrated schedules and proactively identifying sequencing and timeline risks.
Experience producing high‑quality reporting for senior leaders and formal governance forums.
Demonstrable ability to influence, challenge and build alignment across teams and senior stakeholders without direct line authority.
Strong attention to detail, with the ability to balance assurance, proportionality and pace.
Confidence working with ambiguity and incomplete information, using judgement to establish proportionate governance and maintain delivery momentum.
A collaborative, values‑led approach aligned to AQA’s ways of working.
A track record of building senior leader confidence through transparent, reliable and insight‑led reporting.

Desirable Criteria
Experience working within large, multi‑year portfolios, transformation or Reform programmes.
Experience working in education, assessment, regulatory or other highly governed environments.
Understanding of portfolio, programme or PMO operating models.
Experience using specific portfolio reporting, planning and performance tools (e.g., Microsoft Planner Premium, Power BI) to manage dependencies and delivery insight.
Understanding of AQA’s operating model.
Familiarity with education, public sector or regulatory environments.
