Head of Organisational Capability
We are exclusively partnering with an industry leading and extremely well‑known brand on the lookout for an experienced Head of Organisational Capability to join their team in Warwick.
This is an incredible role, providing functional leadership for organisational capability, leadership development, talent, succession and talent acquisition. Ensuring the organisation has the right people, skills, and leadership capacity to deliver both its longer‑term business strategy, and seasonal activities in a safe and sustainable way.
This role focuses on building workforce readiness and effectiveness, reducing key dependency risk and strengthening leadership and talent pipelines, while partnering with senior leaders on capability and succession.
Key responsibilities:
Act as a member of the People Leadership Team (PLT) and the wider Extended Leadership Team (ELT), influencing HR Strategy and organisation‑wide priorities, decisions and culture
Lead the Organisation Capability Team, setting clear direction and priorities, and ensuring the team is structured and resourced effectively. Providing support and coaching to team members to enable their growth and development.
Design, own and govern the organisational competence framework, setting clear competence standards to minimise operational, safety and delivery risk
Ensure all safety‑critical and key roles have defined competence requirements, assessment approaches and assurance in place
Maintain a robust capability baseline (roles, skills, competence, capacity) and ensure it remains current through organisational change
Lead the design and delivery of leadership development, including the Leadership Pathway, ensuring leaders are equipped to lead performance, change and people effectively
Define leadership and management capability expectations and ensure they are embedded through development, assessment and progression routes
Own the talent management approach, including identification of critical roles, talent pools and future capability needs
Lead the development and maintenance of succession plans for critical and senior roles, ensuring readiness and risk visibility
Educate and enable managers on their accountability for talent, succession and capability development, providing clear guidance and challenge where required
Lead learning and development activity to address identified capability gaps, with clear outcomes linked to performance and readiness
Take accountability for the Training, Development and Resourcing budgets ensuring value for money spend and controlling costs
Act as point of sign‑off for external learning and providers, ensuring quality and value
Lead strategic workforce planning and translate business plans into clear capability, talent acquisition and talent actions
Own talent acquisition strategy and governance, ensuring consistent, cost‑effective and high‑quality recruitment outcomes
Own the Performance Management process, ensuring the effective delivery of the Company‑wide goal setting and annual review processes
Own major contracts related to Talent Acquisition and Learning e.g. Master Vendors
Develop and deliver seasonal and high‑risk resourcing plans, ensuring sufficient supply, readiness and resilience
Own development of the Employee Value Proposition (EVP) and similar projects ensuring they support attraction, retention and engagement in critical talent markets
Undertake senior‑level recruitment as required
Lead and own compliance and audit processes to ensure Company compliance under the Organisational Capability Teams' remit such as 'Right to Work' and GDPR
Drive continuous improvement across capability, talent and workforce processes to improve clarity, efficiency and control
Demonstrate Visible Felt Leadership in relation to the business safety culture
Working in close contact with: Operational HR team - Managers, Business Partners, Advisors, Centre of Expertise team members, SLT & ELT, Functional leadership teams, colleagues, Global HR team and external third‑party suppliers and master vendor.
As such we would like you to have/be:
CIPD Level 7 qualification or equivalent postgraduate degree in Human Resources, Organisational Development or a related discipline
Extensive senior‑level experience in strategic disciplines: Talent Acquisition, Learning & Leadership Development and Change Management, with demonstrable company‑wide impact
Proven people leadership experience, including leading and developing multi‑disciplinary teams, setting strategic direction, and holding others to account for delivery and outcomes
Strong track record of designing and embedding organisational capability related processes e.g. Talent Management and Leadership Development
Proven experience of balancing strategic intent with operational execution
Deep experience of data and insights‑led decision making, workforce analytics and performance and reporting to senior stakeholders to drive action
Highly developed stakeholder management and influencing capability, with the credibility to operate at ELT/SLT level and partner effectively across multiple organisational environments
Strong analytical and commercial mindset, able to interpret insight, diagnose organisational issues and translate data into clear priorities and sustainable solutions
Comprehensive knowledge of UK employment law, governance and HR compliance, with the judgement to manage risk appropriately in a senior leadership context
Excellent strategic planning, prioritisation and delivery capability, able to manage competing demands, make clear trade‑offs and deliver outcomes at pace
Strong customer and service orientation, with a clear focus on improving organisational effectiveness, employee experience and business outcomes
Demonstrate agility, adaptability and learning mindset, able to lead through ambiguity and evolving organisational priorities
