PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

The Operations Manager (Deputy Head of Sound) will support the Head of Sound and Communications in managing the increasing complexity and scale of audio operations, providing leadership across all Sport Production areas (Video, Audio, Events, Stories and Online). * Support the leadership and day‑to‑day management of the BBC Sport sound team, working closely with managed service partners and outside broadcast suppliers.
* Act as deputy to the Head of Sound and Communications, providing cover and ensuring continuity of leadership when required.
* Plan and deliver audio projects, from major event delivery (e.g. Olympic Games, World Cup, Wimbledon) to workflow design and operational support.
* Work as an operational Sound Supervisor when required, maintaining the highest artistic and technical standards across multiplatform productions.
* Provide expert advice and guidance to production and technical teams on sound and communications throughout the production lifecycle.
* Build strong working relationships with indie companies, external broadcasters and suppliers, aligning technical requirements and supporting effective broadcast planning.
* Drive innovation and continuous improvement, including supporting AoIP transition, trialing new technologies and enhancing workflows across evolving platforms.

YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA

* Excellent knowledge of live sport audio workflows and operations.
* Excellent system knowledge of broadcast sound desks and communication systems including some hands‑on experience.
* Ability to configure and support large‑scale communication systems within complex broadcast environments.
* Excellent communication skills and a great team player.
* Proven experience in live broadcast audio, with the ability to operate at Sound Supervisor level when required.

BENEFITS

* Fair pay and flexible benefits including a competitive salary package, a flexible 35‑hour working week, 25 days annual leave with the option to buy an extra 5 days, a defined pension scheme and discounted dental, health care and gym access.
* Excellent career and professional development.
* Support in your working life, including flexible working which you can discuss at any stage of the application, selection or offer.
* A values‑based organisation where the way we do things is important as what we do.
