Purpose of the Role
To provide support within the Buying department by assisting with the procurement of materials and services for construction projects. This is an entry-level role designed for a school/college leaver or early-career individual with a genuine interest in construction, offering a clear pathway into Quantity Surveying after two years if desired.
Key Responsibilities
* Place purchase orders with suppliers for construction materials and equipment.
* Liaise with suppliers to obtain quotes, confirm lead times, and resolve order issues.
* Support colleagues in the Buying department with day-to-day procurement tasks.
* Maintain accurate records of orders and deliveries.
* Assist in tracking costs and ensuring materials are ordered within budget.
* Build positive working relationships with site teams and suppliers.
* Develop knowledge of construction materials, processes, and procurement systems.
* Prepare to transition into the Quantity Surveying department after two years.
Person Specification
Essential
* Enthusiasm to build a career in construction.
* Willingness to learn and take on new challenges.
* Reliability, punctuality, and a positive attitude.
* Basic IT skills (Microsoft Office).
* Ability to work effectively in a team and communicate clearly.
Desirable
* Interest or qualifications in construction-related studies (e.g. BTEC, HNC, T-Level).
* Previous part-time work experience in retail, customer service, or admin.
* Driving licence (or working towards).
Development & Progression
* Years 1–2: Hands-on training in procurement and buying processes.
* After 2 years: Structured move into the Quantity Surveying department to begin QS training.
* Education support: Opportunity to study towards professional qualifications (HNC/HND/Degree) debt-free alongside employment.
