Health Care Assistant
As a Health Care Assistant, you will become a valued member of a highly skilled team, assisting the registered nursing staff in providing high quality care at all times. Excellent communication skills, cheerfulness, friendliness and willingness to provide personal care are essential.
As an HCA you will be the eyes and the ears of our patients. We are looking for caring individuals who want to provide excellent care to patients in our service.
We expect you to undertake all aspects of basic nursing care, including personal care supporting the patients to remain independent. All staff must participate in the maintenance of the ward and, with the support of professionally qualified members of the multidisciplinary team, ensure the highest standard of patient/client care.
We will support you to undertake core and additional training and ensure you have the support you need to flourish in this vital role.
You will be delivering care under the supervision and direction of qualified members of the team.
We expect to deliver an excellent standard of care – review and report any change to patient’s condition to appropriately qualified senior members of the team.

Responsibilities
* Assist the registered nursing staff in providing high quality care at all times.
* Deliver personal care, contributing to patients’ independence and well‑being.
* Act as the eyes and ears of patients, reporting changes to patient condition promptly.
* Participate in maintenance of the ward and support the multidisciplinary team to ensure the highest standard of care.
* Carry out basic nursing care, including personal care, under the supervision and direction of qualified members of the team.
* Report any alteration in patients’ or client’s condition and initiate emergency action to the qualified clinical nurse.
* Be aware of spiritual, cultural and religious needs of patients and ensure care is sensitive to those needs.
* Collect specimens of urine, faeces, or sputum as directed by a qualified clinical nurse, ensuring storage transport or disposal.
* Assist with the control of infection, including safe disposal of clinical waste.
* Provide assistance to address nutritional and dietary needs of patients/clients:
o Ensuring specific care instructions such as nil by mouth are complied with.
o Assisting patients/clients with oral care needs.
o Ensuring patients receive necessary fluid intake.
o Assisting patients/clients with meals, including aiding menu choices and encouraging eating.
o Documenting all dietary intake or refusals in patient notes.
* Assist to ensure the psychological, emotional and physical needs of patients/clients are met, responding appropriately and reporting accordingly.
