The Head of Project Delivery & Monitoring leads the planning, execution, and successful completion of all Welsh Dee Trust projects.

Pension:Option of the Rivers trust pension; Employees contribution of 5% and Employers of contribution of 9%.

Are you ready to lead meaningful environmental projects that protect and restore the River Dee? As our newHead of Project Delivery & Monitoring, you’ll be at the forefront of designing and delivering practical, high-impact solutions, working with farmers, landowners, communities, and agencies to improve the health of this precious river.
This is a strategic leadership role where you’ll manage multiple conservation projects, support a passionate team, and take the leading role in delivering ambitious targets within our 2027 strategy like:
* Restoring40km of riverbank habitat
* Improving150 polluting drains
* Supporting healthier soils across1,800 acres of farmland
You’ll also play a key role in shaping ournext five-year strategy (2027–2032), helping us go bigger and bolder in our mission.
About the Welsh Dee Trust:
As part of the wider Rivers Trust movement, the Welsh Dee Trust is a small, fast-paced and independent charity committed to a pollution-free River Dee teeming with wildlife.
Our work focuses on practical, on-the-ground solutions to tackle key challenges facing the river, including habitat restoration, sustainable drainage, and pollution prevention.
A cornerstone of our success is our collaborative approach, working closely with local communities, landowners, and stakeholders to identify and implement pragmatic projects. Cumulatively, these efforts aim to make a significant and lasting impact on the river Dee and its wildlife.

The strategy includes 3 delivery programmes: Water Wise Farming, Restoring River Habitat and It Shouldn’t Be in the Dee which include targets such as restoring 40km of riparian habitat, improving 150 polluting drains and improving health across 1800 acres of farmland. In 2025 work will start on developing our bigger, better and more impactful 2027- 2032 strategy.
About the Role:
The Head of Project Delivery and Monitoring will play a pivotal role in driving the successful implementation of projects that deliver the Welsh Dee Trust strategy and overall objective. This leadership position is responsible for overseeing the planning, execution, and delivery of multiple, high-impact projects, ensuring they are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest standards.
Key responsibilities include managing and mentoring project delivery staff, developing and optimising project management processes, and fostering strong relationships with stakeholders, partners, and funders. The role requires strategic oversight to prioritise initiatives, mitigate risks, and allocate resources effectively to maximize impact.
The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in project management and delivery, excellent organisational and communication skills, and the ability to lead cross-functional teams. This is an exciting opportunity to shape the organisation’s project portfolio and contribute significantly to its success and growth.
Duties
* Lead the successful planning, execution, and delivery of all Welsh Dee Trust projects within our 3 delivery programmes.
* Fulfil the role of safety manager for the trust, ensuring health and safety policies are correct and implemented.
* Manage project staff, consultants, and delivery partners
* Oversee project budgets
* Ensure delivery of key targets from our current five-year strategy
* Secure and manage funding to support our work
* Foster relationships with key partners, including NRW, Environment Agency, water companies, landowners, and government bodies
* Promote innovation and continuous improvement in project delivery
* Undertake the role of acting CEO, undertaking day-to-day operations in the absence of the current CEO.
Knowledge and Experience:
Essential:
* Experience in designing and delivering environmental projects
* Strong project management skills, including budgeting, procurement, and risk management
* Experience in line managing staff, including supporting professional development.
* Excellent communication skills—including public speaking and stakeholder engagement
Desirable:
* Welsh language skills
* A solid understanding of an area of river ecosystems e.g. hydro geomorphology, water quality testing, community engagement, water company treatment etc.
* Experience in fundraising and bid-writing
* Knowledge of CDM (Construction, Design & Management) Regulations
