At Sheffield Forgemasters we have an exciting opportunity for a Fettler to join our team.

This role is based at our 64-acre site, sitting in the heart of Sheffield, and will be working as part of our Foundry department. Our foundry produces the largest and most technically demanding castings in the World, up to 15 metres long, 8.5 metres in diameter and up to 350 tonnes in weight. We have state of the art in-house inspection facilities and a multi-skilled NDT team, offering all conventional surface and volumetric inspection.

As a Fettler, you will undertake skimming, grinding, shaving and sanding away imperfections on raw castings to the finish-quality required..

What you’ll be doing

* Sand castings using manual and mechanical equipment.
* Remove defects from casting surfaces.
* Grind castings to specified standards.
* Rectify welding work on castings using electrical and pneumatic grinding tools.
* Ensure all duties are carried out according to quality and health and safety procedures.


About You

* Ideally previous experience working in heavy engineering.
* Experience as a Fettler is a distinct advantage, but not essential as full training will be provided.
* Experience using grinding equipment and / or arc-air equipment is an advantage, but not essential as training will be provided.
* Knowledge of foundry working is beneficial.
* Ability to working as a part of a team.
* Thorough understanding of health and safety in the workplace.

The Working Pattern

This is a full-time role working an average of 37 hours per week: Mornings - 06:00 - 13:00; Afternoons- 13:00 - 20:00; Nights - 19:45 - 06:00

Successful candidates must undergo a criminal record check. Successful candidates must meet the security requirements before they can be appointed. People working with government / MOD assets must complete Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) checks.

These restrictions mean that factors such as your nationality, any nationalities you may have previously held, and your place of birth can restrict the roles you are eligible to perform within the organisation. All applicants must as a minimum achieve Baseline Personnel Security Standard. Many roles also require higher levels of National Security Vetting where applicants must typically have 5 - 10 years of continuous residency in the UK depending on the vetting level required for the role, to allow for meaningful security vetting checks.
