The British Sustainable Infrastructure Fund (BSIF) Strategy targets investments in real asset-based solutions intended to directly address key environmental and societal challenges. The Strategy, one of Gresham House's flagship products, commenced in 2019 and has grown significantly since then. At the end of 2023, the Strategy comprises 12 high grade institutional investors and several high-net-worth investors, 12 platform investments and over £740mn of assets under management. The BSIF Strategy is now fundraising for its third vintage of fund, the British Strategic Infrastructure Fund III (BSIF III), in 2024 to enable the Strategy to deploy its £2bn pipeline of investments. Role objective Gresham House is growing its assets under management and the Sustainable Infrastructure (SI) investment team is looking to add a new Investment Analyst or Investment Associate to the London team to help grow the BSIF platform. The SI team are currently investing from their successor British Strategic Infrastructure Fund II (BSIF II) and five co-invest vehicles, with plans to launch BSIF III and other co-invest vehicles imminently, to capture on the success to date, and further develop the franchise. Gresham House's Sustainable Infrastructure strategy aims to deliver superior financial returns alongside positive impact, both social and environmental, through investments into real assets which help deliver innovative solutions to live in a more sustainable way. We focus on regional UK investments at the lower mid end of the market (sub-£50m equity cheques initially) - areas often overlooked by investors, where we can build up platforms and deploy significant capital (£100m) over time. The strategy is evolving to look at more international investments, with a focus in North America, Canada and Europe. The SI team operates with a highly meritocratic structure which allows all team members to gain significant deal exposure and the opportunity to grow your role at the pace you're able. The role will be focused on making new investments and managing existing portfolio companies. BSIF is seeking to become the leader in Sustainable Infrastructure investing. Implementation of best practices in asset stewardship and sustainability reporting will be a key part of the role. Key responsibilities / accountabilities The role is divided into two main areas: Origination, Analysis and Execution: We are actively adopting a value-added infrastructure approach to create market leading platforms of real assets in six target areas: digital inclusion; decarbonisation; resource efficiency; waste solutions; health and education; and regeneration. To do so, we need to ensure the highest quality analytical and transaction support to the senior team, including: Supporting senior team members in reviewing and analysing new investment opportunities; Building and managing financial models; Drafting the scope for third party due diligence, co-ordinating the appointment of suppliers and actively supporting the entire due diligence process; Assisting in drafting investment summaries and investment committee papers; Supporting in-depth market research and analysis as required; and Actively originating new investment opportunities and new product development. Asset Management: As the portfolio companies scale their operations, there is a requirement to work with the senior team to deliver portfolio value and monitor and report on the performance. The role will include: Actively working with portfolio companies and our wider advisor network to maximise the value of the portfolio, through strategic, operational and financial support; Attendance at portfolio Board meetings and other key meetings; Reviewing portfolio monthly management information packs and highlighting any key or unexplained variances to senior team; Providing regular updates to the wider team on performance against budget / expectations; Assisting portfolio companies to deliver their strategies including supporting with the identification and execution of bolt-on transactions and refinancings; Drafting portfolio updates, including valuations, for internal review and for investors; and Input into financial models including fund models. Skills & experience 2-3 years experience for Investment Analyst level and 3-5 years experience for Investment Associate level, in investment analysis and financial modelling, ideally from: o a leading buy-side asset manager in the real asset or mid-market PE fields; and/or o a leading IB or top-tier advisory firm with a background in Infra/Real Assets, TMT or other lower/mid-market scale fields; Preference for experience within value-added infrastructure and/or capital heavy PE businesses; Some international investment or advisory experience in Canada, North America and/or Europe would be beneficial; High quality education, ideally with a background in finance, accounting, maths or engineering; Strong financial modelling capability; The ability to provide in-depth analysis across a range of deal types; Proven ability to add-value to deals; Excellent written and verbal communication, presentation, research and financial analysis skills; Excellent attention to detail combined with strong organisational and time management skills; and Entrepreneurial flare coupled with EQ.
