We are currently seeking an experienced Prototype Technician to join our team in Solihull, West Midland.
Role Overview:
A multi-functional role responsible for the building and testing of electric motors and associated control electronics and covering prototype, development and flight standard hardware. In addition, the role holder will provide investigation support for failed hardware through testing, strip and inspection, and the generation of investigation documentation.
What you will do:
Assembly and Repair Hardware:
* Follow and support the development of build documentation and ongoing updates.
* Strip, investigate and diagnose faults in returned hardware using appropriate tools and techniques.
* Communicate the failure to the Engineering team point of contact and use the information gathered to complete a report using the standard template.
Hardware Test:
* Use automated test equipment for electronic circuit card and assembled unit ATP.
* Use automated test equipment for electric motor ATP.
* Use bench test equipment for unit calibration, ATP and manual testing
* Access relevant systems (CIMAGE and Solumina) and follow the latest release of documentation. Support the update of these based on test findings.
* Use manual test equipment and methods to support fault diagnosis at circuit card and product level.
* Comply with procedures to prevent Foreign Object Debris (FOD) and Electrostatic Discharge (ESD).
* Achieve and maintain accreditation in accordance with the Collins Aerospace ECMS Quality approval process (Quality Stamp).
* Work in accordance with Operations team targets and communicate effectively with colleagues across the business to meet customer expectations.
* Work with Manufacturing Engineers and the Operations Manager e.g. contribute to prototype build activities and provide feedback to support the development of unit build documentation contained in Solumina as necessary, represent the Manufacturing Engineers at design review meetings if required.
* Work with the Engineering team to support the development of Component Maintenance Manuals and related documentation.
* Contribute to the development of the module in line with the ECMS business strategy.
* Coach and train colleagues to increase team skills and knowledge flexibility.
* Participate in the filming of the build process to record the series of operations required to complete this activity when required.
* Follow ECMS and Collins Aerospace policies and procedures, including those relating to health, safety and wellbeing, and business ethics.
* Support and where necessary lead the deployment of ACE.
* Take an active role in recording and resolving turnbacks.
Essential requirements including qualifications, skills, knowledge, competencies:
* HNC or equivalent relevant experience in mechanical or electromechanical test
Assembly and Repair Hardware – key attributes:
* Ability to follow, apply and support the development of build documentation.
* Ability to strip, investigate and diagnose faults in returned hardware
Experience of the following:
* Use of hand tools including detailed torque requirements for fixings.
* Winding electrical machine components (stators) and electronic components (inductors).
* Bonding – application of adhesive for component repair and retention.
* Soldering – repair of circuit cards and modification in line with IPC standards.
* Impregnation of wound components.
* Paint/repair of surface damage to metalwork.
Hardware Test – key attributes:
* Ability to use automated test equipment for electronic circuit card and assembled unit ATP.
* Ability to use automated test equipment for electric motor ATP.
* Ability to use bench test equipment for unit calibration, ATP and manual testing.
* Ability to follow written test instructions and update these based on test findings.
* Ability to use manual test equipment and methods to support fault diagnosis at circuit card and product level.
* Proactive with excellent customer focus. Able to explain how their role fits into the overall aims of the ECMS organisation.
* Demonstrates professional verbal and written communication with colleagues and customers.
* Demonstrates a focus on accuracy and adherence to ECMS processes e.g. Consistently completes sign off procedures at each stage (e.g. via Solumina).
* Provides standard reports with sufficiently detailed content that can be easily understood by the reader.
* Flexibility - willing to train in other areas if required and to train colleagues. Experience of team working, problem solving and continuous improvement.
Desirable requirements including qualifications, skills, knowledge, competencies:
* Able to follow drawings.
* Able to produce and repair test equipment harnesses and EMC compliant harnesses.
Additional information:
* National/International travel to support the modules may be required.
* Driving licence preferred.
