PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
Join the BBC’s India digital team as a Senior Journalist, shaping how audiences in India and worldwide experience the biggest stories. Based in London, you’ll commission, edit, and publish compelling news and features with accuracy, flair, and context—helping deliver trusted journalism that resonates globally.
The News team needs people who are full of ideas, eager to brainstorm and contribute to our editorial meetings. You will have useful and creative approaches to the big stories in India, including the best formats and visual treatments.
WHY JOIN THE TEAM
You'll be working daily on one of the world's most vibrant and diverse news agendas as the India digital team's representative in the UK. Working alongside the London-based Asia team, you’ll bring the biggest stories from India to a global audience.
This role offers the chance to write breaking news, live posts and features. As a senior journalist you'll also lead editorial shifts, edit live pages, and collaborate with colleagues across the BBC.

You will have useful and creative approaches to the big stories in India, including the best formats and visual treatments. It’s an opportunity to innovate, broaden reach, and make a real impact on how millions engage with our journalism.
This role will largely work in the UK mornings to align with colleagues in Delhi, but weekend and night working may be required, as well as travel at short notice.
Please note that daily shifts will start either at 6am or 7am BST.
Your Key Responsibilities And Impact
* Commission, edit, and publish stories and videos for the BBC News website and social platforms
* Lead news shifts, setting the agenda and assigning stories to team members
* Shape coverage by identifying priorities and adding global context to local stories
* Write and edit breaking news, live pages, and high-impact features
* Monitor social media and audience data to inform storytelling and boost reach
* Meet tight deadlines while maintaining the highest editorial standards across all output
* Collaborate with other BBC teams to share content and avoid
Essential Criteria
YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
* At least seven years’ experience editing and publishing for a major news outlet
* Excellent knowledge of Indian news, history and politics
* A high standard of editorial judgment and production skills, based on substantial experience of editing and writing news stories, features and video scripts
* Ability to ensure the highest standards of subbing and error-free output
* Extensive experience of copy editing and rewriting news and features in text
* Strong understanding of social media formats, and analysing audience data to inform editorial strategy
Desired But Not Required
* Experience of editing video scripts and producing videos
* Familiarity with global news trends and digital audience behaviour
* Experience collaborating across international teams
* Interest in exploring innovative storytelling formats for digital and social platforms
* Knowledge of Indian languages
