Senior Mechanical Engineer - Nuclear/Defence Sector Location: Preston (3 days per week) Contract Length: 12 Months Rate: £52-£60 per hour based on years experience (Inside IR35) A leading nuclear organisation in the UK is seeking a highly skilled Senior Mechanical Engineer to join a prestigious and high-profile project within the nuclear and defence sectors. This is an excellent opportunity for a senior engineer to contribute to the development of critical systems on a significant project. Key Responsibilities: Provide expert technical support within specialist design areas, ensuring adherence to project deadlines and objectives. Review and approve technical documents, designs, calculations, analyses, drawings, and models, ensuring that they meet the highest standards for design documents and technical reports. Make key engineering decisions from both a project and technical standpoint, ensuring alignment with overall project goals. Act as the Technical Authority or Lead Mechanical Engineer when required, demonstrating strong leadership within the project team. Manage all changes within the project scope, ensuring they are assessed and implemented in line with the project's technical requirements. Ensure compliance with relevant engineering procedures, codes, and standards throughout the entire project lifecycle. Expected Qualifications: A degree in Mechanical Engineering (or a related discipline). Significant experience working within highly regulated environments, particularly in the nuclear sector, with the ability to manage multidisciplinary teams. Proven experience handling a range of complex engineering tasks, from concept to delivery. Strong track record in managing engineering scope and ensuring quality delivery across all project phases. Chartered Engineer status is preferred, but not essential. Active UK security clearance is required for this role.
