About Bristol City Leap

Bristol City Leap is an innovative partnership between Bristol City Council and Ameresco which will accelerate green energy investment in Bristol and help towards decarbonising the whole city.

Over the next five years, Bristol City Leap will invest nearly £500 million into low carbon energy infrastructure, such as solar, wind, heat networks, heat pumps and energy efficiency measures – all of which will help Bristol meet its carbon reduction targets of becoming carbon neutral by 2030.

Bristol City Leap is a world first, game-changing approach towards decarbonisation at city-scale and will deliver a transformative boost in the amount of renewable energy and decarbonised heat powering our city, which in turn means a cleaner, greener and healthier place to live, learn, work and play.

We are looking for an Intermediate Quantity Surveyor to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for taking clients projects from the initial idea or specification stage, through to Detailed Design, Build, Acceptance Testing and installation and on to commissioning.

Role and Scope

The Intermediate Quantity Surveyor will support the commercial manager and be required to work on a variety of client projects at any one time depending on the size and scope of the work. The role is expected to provide support to promote best practices in managing interrelated projects and programmes to ensure successful delivery.

Strong commercial, cost and project management along with excellent organisational skills are fundamental, as is the ability to liaise with people at all levels of the organisation.

Requirements of the role as follows:

1. Assist with cost estimation and budgeting.

2. Audit and valuate monthly payment applications, invoices and/or timecards.

3. Produce and maintain cost forecasts throughout design, feasibility and delivery stages.

4. Prepare applications for payment.

5. Notify and negotiate variations with clients and sub-contractors/suppliers.

6. General contract administration.

7. Conduct site visits as necessary with awareness of H&S compliance, supporting risk management and project delivery.

8. Notify early warnings.

9. Support project management teams in delivering projects.

10. Ensure project scope, goals and deliverables are accurately specified, budgeted and planned to meet the objectives of the clients' "Project Brief".

11. Support with the preparation of invitations to tender along with reviewing and evaluating returns.

12. Attend client meetings.

People are important to our business and therefore the ability to interface with other disciplines within the engineering design office and project delivery teams is a vital skill that we look for in all members of our team.

The ideal candidate will have experience in a similar role and be looking to progress:

13. A minimum 2:1 degree in commercial management or similar discipline (BSc or equivalent) is desirable.

14. Be commercially aware with experience of negotiating with subcontractors and suppliers.

15. Support on project/programme management.

16. Ability to support on a range of projects.

17. Able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

18. Advanced IT skills in relation to Word, PowerPoint and Excel and MS Project or other project tools

Personal Attributes:

The successful candidate will be enthusiastic, confident and have a flexible approach to work. They should be able to demonstrate good organisational skills including the ability to multi-task, prioritise work under pressure and complete within deadlines. The job requires the suitable candidate to be able to travel to and around Bristol.
