Electrical Vehicle Fitter £17 per hour Location: Cannock, Staffordshire Hours: Monday to Thursday, 8am - 4.30pm | Friday, 8am to 2pm Reporting to: Production Leader This is a hands-on workshop-based role focused on installing, integrating, and maintaining electrical systems across commercial, fleet, and bespoke vehicles. This position would suit an auto-electrician with strong fault-finding ability, attention to detail, and experience working with both electrical installations and vehicle racking or auxiliary systems. Key Responsibilities Electrical Installation & Modification Install and wire a wide range of vehicle electrical components, including lighting, power supplies, inverters, alarms, sensors, and auxiliary equipment. Fit additional systems such as trackers, telematics, and vehicle-specific electronics. Carry out bespoke electrical modifications in line with client requirements and vehicle specifications. Diagnostics & Fault Finding Diagnose electrical faults and carry out effective repairs or component replacements. Test systems following installation or repair to ensure full functionality. Resolve electrical issues efficiently to minimise vehicle downtime. Systems Integration Integrate new electrical systems with existing vehicle architecture. Program, configure, or calibrate systems where required. Test integrated systems under various operating conditions to ensure reliable performance. Compliance & Safety Carry out all work in line with health & safety regulations and electrical standards. Ensure installations meet relevant industry and regulatory requirements, including type approval and quality standards. Follow risk assessments and safe working practices, including correct use of PPE. Documentation & Communication Complete job cards and maintain accurate installation and test records. Record electrical components used for each build. Communicate progress, issues, or technical concerns clearly with supervisors. Workshop & Equipment Care Maintain tools and diagnostic equipment in safe working order. Keep the workshop clean, organised, and compliant with safety standards. Highlight potential shortages of electrical components or consumables in advance. Skills & Experience Required Minimum of 2 years’ experience in vehicle auto-electrics, electrical fitting, or a similar role. Strong knowledge of 12V and 24V vehicle electrical systems and wiring diagrams. Proven fault-finding and problem-solving ability. Good communication skills and a professional approach to documentation. High attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship. Physically capable of working in confined spaces, lifting equipment, and standing for extended periods. Desirable Experience Auto-Electrical Engineering qualification or similar certification. Experience with modern vehicle electrical systems, including EVs and hybrids. Familiarity with diagnostic tools, software, and CAN bus systems.
