There is an exciting opportunity to join Bellway, one of the UK’s largest house builders. We are looking to recruit a Regional Health and Safety Manager to look after the Essex, Eastern Counties, East Midlands and South Midlands divisional teams.
The Role
The Regional Health and Safety Manager will support, train, and monitor construction sites and offices to ensure adherence to health and safety policies, procedures, and legislation. This role involves accident investigation feedback, audits, training, and liaising with enforcement authorities to promote a safe working environment across the organisation.
Principal accountabilities of the role include:
1. Provide expert advice on health, safety, and welfare matters across the organisation
2. Collaborate with construction, technical, and commercial teams to develop pre-construction health and safety plans
3. Conduct audits to ensure compliance with health and safety legislation and internal policies
4. Oversee and assess the performance of external health and safety consultants
5. Attend and contribute to health and safety meetings
6. Liaise with enforcement authorities (e.g., HSE) and represent the company with external groups such as HBF and MHBG
7. Identify and recommend any necessary health and safety training; deliver in-house training when required.
8. Investigate accidents and incidents, providing reports and liaising with authorities
9. Drive knowledge sharing and learning within the health and safety teams to improve practices
10. Support the Group Health, Safety and Environment Director with ad-hoc projects
Experience, Qualifications and Skills
Experience
11. Previous experience as a Health and Safety Advisor or Manager is preferred, ideally within a construction or house-building environment
Qualifications and Training
12. NVQ 5 Diploma in Occupational Safety & Health or equivalent
13. Membership of IOSH or working towards it
14. Full UK driving license required
Skills and Aptitude
15. Strong knowledge of health and safety legislation and regulations
16. IT literate with proficiency in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
17. Excellent communication and collaboration skills
18. Good planning and organizational abilities
19. Strong inter-departmental communication and collaboration
20. Integrity and the ability to build positive relationships
21. Future-focused with a drive for continuous improvement and change
22. Ability to set and uphold high professional standards
23. Ability to communicate with people on various levels from customers to contractors
