Would you like to join our Physical Health Psychology service to help facilitate coping and adjustment to the impact of Physical Health problems and improve the mental health and wellbeing of people within our service?
An exciting opportunity has arisen to recruit a Clinical or Counselling Psychologist to work in Pain Management. The post-holder will have an essential role in ensuring psychological perspectives are integrated across the service. You will provide specialised clinical input to referred individuals and collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams working with this patient group.
The Physical Health Psychology Service is a team of psychologists, therapists, and counsellors aiming to help people adapt to and find creative solutions for physical health problems. It operates across Dudley, Wolverhampton, and Sandwell and West Birmingham, with this post based at Cross Street Health Centre in Dudley.

Main duties of the job
1. Provides highly specialist psychological assessments for clients with complex conditions, interpreting data from various sources, including neuropsychological testing.
2. Recognises signs of client harm, abuse, neglect, or poor clinical practice, reports concerns, and takes protective steps.
3. Conducts risk assessments and provides expert advice on psychological risk management, considering the high physical risks involved.
4. Develops plans for psychological therapy and mental health management based on evidence-based practices, negotiating with clients and carers.
5. Implements a range of psychological therapies, adjusting formulations as needed.
6. Performs evaluations and makes treatment decisions.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
* Accountable for delivering highly specialist psychological care to clients with complex mental health or learning disabilities, including challenging behaviours and risks of physical aggression.
* Meet the needs of clients, carers, and families with compassion.
* Promote a positive image of people with mental health issues or learning disabilities and of the service and Trust.
* Exercise supervisory and professional responsibility, provide leadership in training, service development, evaluation, and research.
* Contribute psychological perspectives to service redesign and cultural change.
Person specification
* Post-graduate doctoral training in applied Psychology accredited by BPS, including models of psychopathology, psychometrics, neuropsychology, multiple therapies, and lifespan development.
* Post-doctoral training in additional specialised areas.
* HCPC registration as an Applied Psychologist with Chartered Status.
* Experience working as a qualified psychologist across diverse client groups and settings.
* Evidence of ongoing professional development.
* Expertise in managing difficult-to-treat groups, dual diagnoses, disabilities, or challenging behaviours.
