This position is Full-time, 40hrs, Split coverage between two locations (3 days at Newton Wellsley Hospital/ 1 day at Emerson Hospital; schedule may vary based on clinical need
In the Department of Radiation Oncology, the advanced practice provider (APP) is an integral member of the clinical team, providing high-quality patient care across two clinical locations, Newton Wellsley Hospital and Emerson Hospital. The APP can expect a collaborative relationship with the radiation oncology physicians, nursing, therapists, dosimetry, physics, and administrative staff to deliver comprehensive oncology care while practicing independently within the Cancer Centers. This role involves independent clinical evaluations, treatment management, patient education, and coordination of multidisciplinary care for patients undergoing radiation therapy. While the APP can expect a relatively predictable work schedule, variations may occur to cover clinical needs as they become apparent to the department.
Responsibilities for the APP in Radiation Oncology:
•Manage routine follow-up appointments for patients that have completed radiation therapy for multiple disease sites including breast and genitourinary, with expansion to additional disease sites as appropriate.
•Educate patients and families regarding radiation treatments, expected side effects, symptom management, and survivorship care.
•Perform routine laryngoscopy as indicated
•Review and manage dental clearance requests for current and former patients
•Assist with cardiac clearance for patients with pacemakers/ICD/other implanted devices.
•Independently manage the supportive care and urgent patient needs that occur during treatment and in the immediate weeks after treatment when toxicities are expected to peak. This includes but is not limited to assessing and addressing fluid status, skin care, managing pain medications, arranging follow up imaging
•Evaluate and care for patients with acute and chronic effects from radiation therapy and review patient cases with physician of record as appropriate
•Recognize situations which require the immediate attention of a physician and executing appropriately.
•Prescribe medications, supportive therapies, and diagnostic testing within scope of practice.
•Facilitate coordination of care with medical oncology, surgical specialties, palliative care, nutrition, social work, and other support services.
•Lead or assist in difficult conversations including goals of care discussions
•Review and manage patient communications using EPIC In-Basket
•Interact with insurance companies as needed to complete prior authorizations for required imaging studies.
•Have a strong foundation in evaluating evidence-based care publications and applying this knowledge to patient treatment option education
Qualifications:
•Experience in oncology within the past 5 years, preferred, new graduates are encouraged to apply

-Performs bedside procedures as are appropriate to the patient population.
-Orders medications and writes prescriptions in accordance with organizational and regulatory policies and procedures
