This role is based in Unilabs UK in Tissue Sciences for the provision of Pathology testing services to Unilabs patients and customers.
Duties and Responsibilities
* Perform histopathology laboratory activities including dissection (A–C graded specimens), embedding, microtomy, frozen sections, immunohistochemistry and digital pathology.
* Plan, prioritise and deliver scientific workload to ensure efficient and timely diagnostic services.
* Accurately examine, document, photograph and dissect specimens, producing provisional macroscopic reports where appropriate.
* Use Laboratory Information Systems (LIMS) in line with authorised protocols, ensuring data accuracy, integrity and confidentiality.
* Support quality management systems through audits, validation, verification and continuous improvement activities.
* Provide training, supervision and mentoring to Biomedical Scientists, trainees and support staff.
* Assist in service development, implementation of new techniques and adoption of best practice.
* Maintain compliance with health & safety, infection control, clinical governance and regulatory standards.
* Participate in CPD, maintain HCPC registration and contribute to teaching and training programmes.
* Communicate effectively with pathologists, laboratory colleagues and stakeholders to ensure high-quality service delivery.
Requirements
Education & Registration
* BSc (Hons) IBMS-accredited degree or equivalent
* HCPC registration as a Biomedical Scientist
* Specialist portfolio in Histology / FIBMS or equivalent experience
* IBMS membership
* Willingness to undertake MSc (desirable)
Experience
* Proven experience in histopathology laboratory techniques
* Use of Laboratory Information Systems (LIMS)
* Experience with quality management systems, audits and SOPs
* Training, mentoring or supervision of staff
* Knowledge of health & safety and laboratory compliance standards
