Principal/Senior Structural Engineer
RSK Land Development and Engineering (LDE) Ltd, part of the RSK Group, is looking for a Principal/Senior Structural Engineer to join the team in Exeter, UK. This is a full‑time, permanent position.
As a recently chartered or nearing chartered structural engineer, use this role to progress your career, develop a team, and deliver a full range of exciting projects with a clear pathway to director level.
Responsibilities
* Structural Engineer within design team on designated projects, reporting to Associate Engineer.
* Undertake site surveys and structural inspections to ensure design integrity and compliance with engineering standards.
* Understand role within design team and timescales available for required works.
* Work with other team members (Architect, M&E Engineer, Client, etc.).
* Keep up to date with changes in legislation, codes of practice, design codes and proprietary suppliers.
* Assist in the scheme design / value engineering of each project to meet client requirements by the most viable option.
* Co‑ordinate, communicate and ensure satisfactory delivery of a project.
* Maintain and develop technical or management capability through CPD and seminars.
* Implement RSK’s HERRR, Quality and SHEQMS procedures at project level.
* Attend training seminars and present key points to colleagues.
* Check drawings and calculations prepared by colleagues.
* Undertake calculations and designs using efficient processes to latest design standards.
* Issue project documents (email, extra‑net and postal).
* Be aware of project deadlines and allocated time.
* Advise and mentor junior members of the team.
Technical Specification
* Working knowledge of Revit / AutoCAD.
* On‑going experience in drawing production in accordance with standard procedures.
* Practical understanding of structural engineering principles.
* Working knowledge of 2D / 3D steel / concrete finite element modelling software.
* Experience with TEDDS, CADS, and Tela structures desirable.
* Develop project management skills using RSK procedures.
* Implement Designer’s duties under the CDM Regulations 2015.
* Working knowledge of NHBC Standards.
* Working knowledge of Building Regulations.
Qualifications / Requirements
* Prior knowledge of the full engineering / development process.
* Experience in designing reinforced concrete, steelwork, and load‑bearing masonry structures.
* Educated to degree or HNC level.
* Experience in undertaking site surveys and structural inspections.
* Working towards professional chartership with ICE or IStructE.
* Self‑motivated and ambitious.
* Good self‑manager of time and work.
* Strong team player with an energetic outlook that motivates others.
* Experienced with Microsoft products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
* Effective communication skills.
