Role

We The Children’s Intensive Support Team are seeking a committed and passionate Principal Clinical Psychologist looking for an opportunity to make a difference in improving outcomes for our young people. In addition to providing a high quality, specialist applied psychology service the post holder will join the Children’s IST Leadership Team and be responsible, in conjunction with the Consultant Clinical Psychologist, for the supervision and governance of the team. In addition, to support psychological practice within the team through consultation, supervision, formulation and training.

We are a rapidly evolving service and as such there will be considerable opportunities to utilise research, audit and service development skills across the service. The ability to respond quickly and confidently within crisis situations is an essential part of this role.

The teams work systemically to understand and support the significant impact and challenges experienced by our service users. To do this, we work with the network around the person (e.g., Social Care, Education) and work closely with commissioners. As a Clinical Psychologist you will have experience of multi-disciplinary and multi-agency working as you will need to attend regular MDTs, CETRs and EMDTs.

The successful applicant will be required to provide input to the service in the form of specialist assessments and psychological interventions, team formulation, consultation, training, service evaluation and supervision of other qualified staff.

Your role will entail working directly with the service users and their families or carers and, as such, experience of working with young people who are autistic or have a learning disability and have mental health needs is essential.

The people referred to our service have highly complex needs, e.g., enduring behaviour which challenges, self-injury, aggressive, or violent behaviour, or other risky presentations which could lead to harm to themselves or others. Understanding these needs, risks, and behaviours within the context of our service user’s lived experiences and autism and/or learning disability is the foundation of our work and we use Team Formulations and strengths and challenges approach to be neuroaffirmative to help us to do this. You will have a key role in these processes, along with specialist assessments, interventions, and evaluations, which will involve working to understand relationships within families. Experience of the clinical application and evaluation of similar approaches would be advantageous.

At Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership NHS Trust (CWPT), we deliver a wide range of physical, mental health, learning disability and autism services, and are proud to serve communities across Coventry, Warwickshire and beyond.

We put ‘people at our heart’; this ethos is at the centre of everything we do and how we do it. We care for our staff and colleagues as much as they care for others and offer a wide range of benefits and development opportunities.
