Job Description:
Woodland Officer (Scottish Forestry)
Job description
This role is open to applicants from all across Scotland.
It is possible that further vacancies will arise at various locations in Scotland in the next 6 months and we will look to identify potential reserve candidates. Please indicate your preferred location when applying.
Scottish Forestry is seeking enthusiastic, practical, and self-motivated individuals to join our team as Woodland Officers. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a vital mission—supporting woodland creation, sustainable forest management, and helping tackle climate change and biodiversity loss.
About the role
As a Woodland Officer, you will be responsible for a specific geographic area, allowing you to build strong local knowledge and relationships with landowners, managers, and stakeholders. You will provide professional advice and guidance on grants and regulations, helping to deliver the Scottish Government’s forestry priorities.
Your work will be a balance of field visits and time spent working from home or the office. Teamwork is a key part of the role, and you will collaborate with colleagues across your area and the wider agency—for example, supporting investigations into unlicensed felling.
About you
We offer a comprehensive training programme to equip you with the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in the role. If you have a good understanding of the rural sector and enjoy communicating with landowners and land managers, this could be the perfect career for you.
Employee benefits
At Scottish Forestry, we are proud to offer a generous benefits package, including 25 days of annual leave (rising to 30 after five years), flexible and hybrid working options, an excellent contributory pension scheme, and access to wellbeing and employee support services. You will also benefit from a wide range of learning and development opportunities, as well as discounts through our Employee Benefits Portal.
How to apply
We welcome applications from everyone regardless of background and recommend that you see the full details of the post on the attached job description and success profile document.
