Senior Clinical Neuropsychologist

We are pleased to advertise a vacancy for a Senior Paediatric Neuropsychologist post in the Neuropsychology service at Great Ormond Street Hospital.
The post would suit a highly motivated individual interested in neuropsychological assessment of children with neurological conditions.
Applicants should have extensive experience in Neuropsychology or related subject, good interpersonal and communication skills, and experience of management of staff. Prior experience of working with individuals with brain injury or neurological conditions is essential, particularly with epilepsy or neurovascular conditions. Ideally, we would welcome applications from QICN holders.
Main duties of the job
The service is involved in clinical research, and data management and research skills will also be valuable.
The post-holder will also be part of the wider Psychological & Mental Health Services in the Trust. There is regular formal supervision and informal support and excellent opportunities for professional development within the Trust.

Academic/Professional qualification/Training
Essential criteria
* Post-graduate doctoral level training in clinical or educational psychology (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996)
* Registered with HCPC as Practitioner Psychologist
* Eligibility for Chartered status and membership of Division of Clinical or Educational Psychology, and Division of Neuropsychology
Desirable criteria
* Holder of the Post-doctoral qualification in Neuropsychology. Also must have eligibility for BPS Specialist Register of Clinical Neuropsychologists
Experience/Knowledge
Essential criteria
* 3.Assessed experience of working as a qualified clinical or educational psychologist for a minimum of 8 years and work within a neuropsychology context for an additional minimum of three years
* Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups, across the whole life course and presenting with the full range of clinical severity across the full range of care settings including outpatient, community, primary care, in-patient and residential care settings
* Experience of exercising full clinical responsibility for clients’ psychological care and treatment, both as a professionally qualified care co-ordinator and also within the context of a multi-disciplinary care plan. Experience assessing/developing & implementing psychological interventions in specialized area
* Experience of teaching, training and/or professional and clinical supervision E A&I Experience of professional management of qualified and pre-qualified clinical psychologists.
* Experience of the application of psychology in different cultural contexts
* Experience of multi-professional management of teams or services within the designated specialty
* Doctoral level knowledge of clinical/educational psychology including highly developed knowledge of lifespan developmental psychology and two or more distinct psychological therapies
* Highly developed knowledge of the theory and practice of specialised psychological therapies in specific paediatric specialties
* Post-graduate level knowledge in paediatric neuropsychology
* A high level ability to communicate effectively at both a written and oral level complex, highly technical and clinically sensitive information to clients, their families, carers and a wide range of lay and professional persons within and outside the NHS
* Knowledge of legislation and its implications for both clinical practice and professional management in relation to the client group and mental health
* Evidence of continuing professional development as recommended by the HCPC

* Must be able to provide effective clinical leadership
* Must be able to plan for delivery of a specialist service, both short/medium and long term
* Able to provide and receive highly complex, sensitive or contentious information in the context of significant barriers to acceptance, hostility, antagonism or highly emotive atmosphere. Communicating at times highly complex condition related information to patients who may be manipulative or hostile
* Ability to identify, provide and promote appropriate means of support to carers and staff exposed to highly distressing situations and severely challenging behaviours
* Ability to identify, and employ, as appropriate, clinical governance mechanisms for the support and maintenance of clinical practice in the face of regular exposure to highly emotive material and challenging behaviour
* Ability to articulate and interpret clearly the role of the profession of clinical psychology based upon a good understanding of the framework of government and national professional policy
* Able to demonstrate skills for assessment, interpretation, and appropriate formulation, where expert opinion may differ
* Skilled in using psychometric and neuropsychological test equipment
* Ability to contain and work with organisational stress and ability to ‘hold’ the stress of others
* Good communicator
* Evidence of satisfactory and productive multidisciplinary team working
