In line with the Welsh Ambulance Services University NHS Trust strategic ambition towards the transformation of patient care, the Clinical Directorate are delighted to be recruiting an Assistant Director of Clinical Development. The position will support the transformation of our Service, through analysing clinical outcome data in order to inform strategy and develop clinical structures, policies and guidance.
The individual will demonstrate clinical leadership to guide decision making on patient care, steering the organisation through its development of the workforce and evidence based progression in clinical practice.
The Assistant Director of Clinical Development will have direct responsibility for the areas of clinical development including clinical improvement strategies, clinical intelligence and assurance, medicines management as well as the development of the optimising conveyance transformational work streams. The role will contribute to and advise on the strategic leadership of the Trust through the reporting of progress against clinical objectives, professional leadership and consultation.
Working in partnership with the Assistant Director of Clinical Delivery as well as internal and external stakeholders, the post holder will be responsible for ensuring that the Trust develops its ability to deliver the highest standard of clinical care and that all targets and objectives are met in line with national and local standards.
Main duties of the job
* Working across healthcare and emergency service sectors in partnership with other professionals to develop appropriate evidence-based pathways, protocol, policies and clinical guidelines of care related to clinical development.
* Introduce changes when required that will apply to management and performance of recognised emergency procedures, including those appropriate to patient data collection and analysis.
* Drawing on qualitative and quantitative analysis, monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of current clinical procedures and develop practice to improve outcomes for patients.
* Work in partnership with others, delegating aspects to optimise health/care outcomes and resource use and providing appropriate support to patients.
* Demonstrate, promote, and develop visible leadership across the Trust ensuring our values, behaviours and clinical leadership are pertinent.
* Improve practice and health outcomes so that they are consistent with national and international standards through managing and facilitating change.
* Lead the Clinical Development Team through the service improvement and transformational processes that will support the team to make judgements on enhanced patient care based on the outcomes identified.
* Take a visibly leading role in the development of the Clinical Strategy, areas of ePCR and service transformation as well as making and implementing key decisions.

Qualifications and/or Knowledge
Essential criteria
* Health and Care Professionals Council (HCPC) registered paramedic
* Master’s degree in a related field
* Highly developed specialist knowledge underpinned by theory and experience across a number of subject areas and work practices (e.g. Accident and Emergency (A&E) Services, NHS Services, Finance, Human Resources, Logistics etc)
* Current broad knowledge of the NHS context.
* Strategy awareness of the challenges facing health and social care, and in particular the Trust
Experience
Essential criteria
* Significant experience as a paramedic
* Demonstrable achievement in advancing and developing clinical services
* Able to challenge across professional and organisational boundaries
* Evidence of managing change through redesign
Desirable criteria
* Able to demonstrate clinical work in a variety of practice settings
* Appreciation of activity, performance and financial issues in the Trust
* Experience of working with statutory regulatory professional bodies example.g. HCPC
