Cover Supervisor – Secondary Schools – Winchester, Hampshire

GSL Education are recruiting motivated full-time Cover Supervisors (CS) to work across secondary schools in Winchester, Hampshire, from September 2025. This role is perfect for aspiring teachers, recent graduates, or professionals with experience working with young people who are looking to gain hands-on experience in a classroom setting. You’ll have the flexibility to choose the days you work—up to five days per week—making it ideal for those balancing other commitments. This is a great opportunity to gain school-based experience while developing your confidence in managing a classroom.
You will lead lessons during teacher absences, helping students engage with set work while maintaining a calm and focused learning environment. Excellent classroom management skills are essential.
Key Responsibilities of a Cover Supervisor (CS):
* Deliver lessons using pre-prepared materials in the absence of the class teacher
* Ensure students are engaged and completing the work set
* Manage classroom behaviour in line with school expectations
* Support students by answering questions and offering guidance where appropriate
* Communicate with school staff regarding student progress and any concerns
* Help with classroom routines such as registration and transitions
* Foster a respectful and inclusive atmosphere for all learners
* Adapt quickly to different subjects and school environments
Requirements for Cover Supervisor (CS):
* Strong classroom presence and behaviour management skills
* Adaptability, resilience, and a proactive approach
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
* Experience with young people in a school or similar setting as a Cover Supervisor or similar (desirable)
* Ideal for graduates or those exploring teacher training pathways
* CACHE Level 2/3 or NVQ Level 2/3 in Teaching Assistant or Childcare is desirable but not essential.
* Have an updated CV and an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to apply for one
