Why not undertake a 3-year Royal College of Podiatry accredited Podiatry Apprenticeship, with Plymouth University and HCRG Care Group in Bath and Wiltshire? Combining vocational work-based learning with study for a university degree. Apprenticeships offer a higher education qualification, a salary, and invaluable practical experience and employment skills.
The apprenticeship includes 1-day per week (a working day) of academic study via Plymouth University's virtual platform. The apprentice will also undertake 1000 hours of clinical practice placements in various settings within Bath and Wiltshire.
The work-based learning will involve assisting the podiatry team in delivering podiatry services across Bath North East Somerset, Swindon, and Wiltshire.
Main duties of the job
* Support and assist in providing podiatry interventions to patients under supervision and with appropriate training.
* Conduct evidence-based assessments, treatments, and discharges delegated by a registered podiatrist.
* Monitor podiatric care plans and ensure foot health education is provided.
* Communicate podiatry information effectively to patients, carers, and staff, overcoming barriers where necessary.
* Encourage and support patients to follow their podiatry care plans using motivation, persuasion, and negotiation skills.
Note: Shortlisting for this role will be on 16th June, with interviews scheduled for Monday, 23rd June.
* Attend university and clinical placements as per the degree program.
* Complete and pass academic modules and clinical placements to the required standards.
* Ensure timely completion of assignments and assessments.
* Gain experience in various clinical areas during the apprenticeship.
* Participate in tripartite reviews with the university and employer, a requirement of the apprenticeship.
* Complete and pass the End Point Assessment.
* Manage a clinical caseload, gaining knowledge of treating conditions like diabetes, rheumatological, biomechanical issues, etc.
* Assess, diagnose, develop, and implement treatment plans for diverse clinical needs.
* Provide education to patients with foot pathology, empowering them in self-care.
* Experience in clinical areas including diabetes, rheumatology, biomechanics, tissue viability, nail surgery, and wound management.
* Deliver foot care within delegated competencies and using trained equipment.
* Participate in foot health education for patients, relatives, and carers.
* Assist in minor surgery sessions as instructed by the Podiatrist.
* Understand medication and medical conditions' implications on care and treatment planning.
* Monitor patient needs and refer back to the Podiatrist if necessary.

The Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will have:
* Five GCSEs including Maths, English, and Science, or Level 2 Functional Skills in these subjects.
* 104 UCAS points (equivalent to BCC at A-level, including a biological subject).
* Recent academic achievement within the last 5 years demonstrating readiness for degree-level study.
* Good communication skills to convey tasks effectively.
* Ability to assist patients in achieving safe treatment environments.
* Skills to perform treatments in clinics, homes, and hospital settings.
* Fine motor skills for using instruments in podiatry treatments.
* Ability to use patient information systems.
* Willingness to work in other areas of HCRG as needed.
* Knowledge of the Professional Code of Conduct for Podiatry.
* Understanding of studying part-time alongside employment.
* Self-reflection and evaluation skills, seeking advice for development.
