Overview
If you are expected to achieve at least a 2:1 in an analytical degree – e.g., economics, statistics, mathematics or physics – an industrial placement at the National Physical Laboratory (NPL) gives you the opportunity to support our economists and data analysts.
The Analysis & Evaluation (A&E) team goes beyond theory and applies economic knowledge to real‑world problems, helping government monitor and evaluate the economic impact of NPL’s programmes.
The A&E team develops business cases to bid for public funding and provides the economic case – a key component of the business case, setting out the rationale and Value for Money for programmes.
The estimated start date is August 2026 and the estimated end date August 2027.
During the placement you will develop highly sought‑after technical skills by working with Microsoft Excel and other statistical software, and you will have the opportunity to attend training courses such as effective communication and time management.
