Overview

Newcastle University is hiring a full-time Administrator to support the NIHR Maternity Disparities Consortium (MDC), a £50 million initiative focused on improving maternity outcomes and addressing inequalities. This fixed-term role offers the opportunity to contribute to a high-impact national research programme while working closely with teams at Newcastle and the University of Birmingham.

About the Consortium

The NIHR MDC brings together nine university-led collaborations to address maternity inequalities through research, capacity building, and community engagement. The consortium is coordinated jointly by Newcastle University and the University of Birmingham.


Role Purpose

Provide comprehensive administrative support to the Consortium’s co-lead for Research and Capacity Development, Programme Manager, and Training Manager. Act as the first point of contact for the Newcastle team and ensure smooth coordination of meetings, events, reporting, and communications.


Key Responsibilities

* Diary management, travel arrangements, and meeting coordination
* Organise and service internal and external meetings, workshops, and events
* Maintain confidential records and ensure compliance with data protection and research governance
* Support financial processes including invoices, expenses, and procurement
* Develop and maintain administrative systems and reporting databases
* Provide communications support including website updates and stakeholder liaison
* Assist with capacity development and training programme logistics
* Represent the Consortium at meetings and events as needed


Candidate Profile


Essential Knowledge & Experience

* Recent administrative experience in a large organisation
* Proficiency in MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
* Strong interpersonal and written communication skills
* Experience with financial systems and budget monitoring
* Ability to manage complex committees and stakeholder relationships
* Familiarity with research systems in higher education
* Experience drafting reports and promotional materials
