Mechanical Maintenance Engineer
Location: Cramlington, Northumberland. The role is part of a stable manufacturing site and offers long‑term security for skilled, practical engineers.
The Role
As a core member of the site maintenance team you will maintain, repair and enhance a diverse range of manufacturing equipment, primarily mechanical with occasional basic electrical fault‑finding. Your work will support production teams to minimise downtime and optimise site performance.
Key Responsibilities
* Perform planned and reactive mechanical maintenance.
* Diagnose and repair mechanical breakdowns to minimise downtime.
* Work on mechanical systems including gearboxes, bearings, pumps, hydraulics and pneumatics.
* Provide support for basic electrical fault‑finding when required.
* Assist with the installation, modification and improvement of machinery.
* Ensure all maintenance activities comply with health and safety standards.
* Collaborate with production teams to enhance site performance.
Qualifications and Experience
* Proven mechanical maintenance experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
* Recognised mechanical qualification (e.g., apprenticeship, NVQ, HNC) or equivalent hands‑on experience.
* Strong fault‑finding skills and a practical, methodical approach.
* Basic electrical knowledge or willingness to learn (desirable, not essential).
* Open to candidates currently titled Maintenance Engineer, Mechanical Fitter or Maintenance Technician.
