Are you an experienced Environmental Health Officer looking to make a tangible impact in housing safety? We’re working with a forward-thinking local authority in the Midlands seeking skilled EHOs to support a critical programme of work across high-rise and medium-rise residential buildings, with a particular focus on HMOs and fire safety compliance.
Key Responsibilities: Conduct inspections and enforcement in relation to high-rise residential buildings (HRRBs) under the Building Safety Act 2022, Fire Safety Act 2021, Fire Safety Regulations 2022, and the Housing Act 2004 (Addendum 2018).
Lead on fire risk assessment and housing safety work, particularly across HMOs and complex residential settings.
Work collaboratively with Fire & Rescue Services, Building Control, property managers, and other key stakeholders to ensure safe housing standards.
Prepare and review Building Safety Cases in line with current legislation.
Offer professional advice and guidance to property managers and building owners on fire safety responsibilities.
Investigate non-compliance, support enforcement actions where necessary, and contribute to prosecution processes as needed.
Maintain detailed, articulate reports and case notes in accordance with service standards.
About You: We’re looking for EHOs with:
A recognised Environmental Health qualification
Demonstrable experience in fire safety, especially in residential buildings
Qualified Fire Risk Assessor (ABBE Level 4 or equivalent)
Strong working knowledge of current legislation, including:
Building Safety Act 2022
Fire Safety Act 2021
Fire Safety Regulations 2022
Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005
Housing Act 2004 (including the 2018 Addendum)
Experience preparing or reviewing Building Safety Cases
Experience with Type 1 Fire Risk Assessments in residential, commercial, or holiday accommodation
Familiarity with PAS 9980 methodology (fire risk assessments of external walls)
Solid IT skills – Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, Outlook), Vision Plan 2
