Job summary

We are looking for highly motivated children's nurses to join our dynamic and driven team at the Royal national orthopaedic hospital.

We are looking for individuals who are enthusiastic, innovative and passionate and ready for a new challenge.

We are a specialist hospital in orthopaedics, so if you are looking at gaining skills within this speciality then this is the job for you.

We care for children from 0-18 years with different orthopaedic conditions. Our inpatient ward is a 27 bedded paediatric ward.

The successful candidates will have the opportunity to work in a specialist, fast-paced and learning -rich environment.

No previous orthopaedic experience is required as we offer in-house training and support.

We are looking for children's nurses who are ready to develop into the specialist field of orthopaedics.

Main duties of the job

We are currently recruiting for band 5 Nurses. This is an opportunity for a committed and dynamic individual to join our friendly and enthusiastic team.

We positively encourage staff development and have a clinical education team ready to help with development and support.

Applicants must be able to demonstrate trust values and behaviours and provide high quality clinical care to patients and their families in accordance with professional regulations and our trust values.

We are looking for someone who is able to work well within the team, taking on delegated responsibilities from the nurse in charge and work in line with the trust policies, objectives, protocols and local guidelines.

The successful candidate will also be able to work autonomously and with others to always deliver high standards of care to patients and their families.

We are looking for individuals who are able to work as an advocate for Children and young people and communicate well with their families, carers and the multidisciplinary team.

Job responsibilities

To provide a high quality of direct patient care to Children and young people.

Practise according to the NMC Code of professional conduct

You will be responsible for the assessing the needs of children and young people and their families, planning, implementing and evaluating their care.

Working as an advocate for the patients and their families

Assumes accountability for direct patient care and care of significant others.

To undertake patient assessment and problem identification including goal setting.

To plan, implement and evaluate all aspects of patient care from admission to discharge, working in partnership with the multidisciplinary team.

Ensure that the care needs of both the patient and the carers attending the department are met.

To discuss with the nurse in charge the developments and changes which can affect patient care both directly and indirectly.

Through evidence of good practice, promotes and assists the delivery of high standard of care.

To be responsible for the safe administration of medication as laid down nationally and within the royal National orthopaedic Hospital NHS Trust.

Continually updates or provides patient/carers with information in relation to their condition and/or process through the department.

Acts at all times in accordance with the NMC and RNOH policies, protocols and guides of good practice, within own scope of professional practice.

Acts at all times to safeguard Children and young peoples welfare through timely escalation of concerns and following trusts safeguarding referral processes and procedures.

To maintain knowledge of current trends in healthcare and in the profession. To assist with nursing research as required.

Considers the patients right to confidentiality of all information, bearing in mind child protection issues.

Acts as a role model

Maintain accurate records, observing confidentiality at all times verbal and written.

Participates in the development of the ward.

Actively participates in supervision and teaching of junior staff and students.

To maintain personal professional status by ensuring that the requirements laid down by the NMC periodic registration to maintain professional development programmes and ensure skill and competencies are maintained.

To comply with mandatory training and yearly appraisals.
