Tasks
Purpose of the post:
To work as part of our Learning Support Department to guide and support students in overcoming their barriers to learning. To improve achievement, progress, conduct, and character development through targeted interventions developed alongside the SENCO, supporting students with special educational needs. To help students fulfill their potential as learners and individuals.
Hours: Term time only plus 2 Inset days, with three Support Staff Days off during term time, 35 hours per week, 45 weeks per year.
Accountable for: The progress, conduct, achievement, and learning of students.

Accountabilities:
Assist the SEN team in the personal development of students towards values, character strengths, attitudes, and behavior necessary to maximize educational opportunities. Communicate with relevant school members, including Form Tutors, year teams, teachers, and key workers, to ensure awareness of students' needs, targets, and strategies. Monitor students' educational progress and intervene to overcome obstacles, using assessment data to identify underachievement and involving parents in updates.
Implement intervention strategies in consultation with others (Head of Year, SLT, SENCO, Heads of Department) to remove learning obstacles. Support students in the classroom, working individually or in small groups as appropriate. Conduct mentoring and reflection activities to address poor behaviors. Support external referrals and liaise with outside agencies, parents, and the community for student benefit.
Be a visible presence in the school, assisting with duty and changeover times to promote orderly conduct. Work with families to address learning barriers and build strong relationships. Maintain efficient pupil records, support curriculum enrichment activities, and participate in key school events and meetings. Support students with regulation and emotional literacy programs, and work closely with relevant teams to support vulnerable students.
Specific Accountabilities:
* Assist the SENCO in overseeing the care, welfare, and behavior of specific SEN students.
* Monitor academic progress and set behavior targets, devising and following intervention programs.
* Share programs and targets with staff, investigate incidents, and conduct restorative work.
* Undertake duty and patrol duties as required, and oversee relevant record-keeping.
* Support SEN enrichment activities and contribute to staff training and development.
* Facilitate emotional support areas and promote participation and inclusion.
General:
Participate in meetings with colleagues and parents, undertake supervisory duties, and support the school's mission and values. Note that this job description may be modified or amended as needed.

Person Specification - Requirements
Qualifications: Appropriate qualifications and relevant experience for professionals other than teachers.
Professional Knowledge and Experience: Understanding of current developments in secondary education, child protection, safeguarding, and addressing social, emotional, and psychological obstacles. Knowledge of assessment procedures, multicultural environments, equal opportunities, and SEN issues.
Professional Skills: Ability to liaise effectively, motivate students, assess and monitor progress, communicate clearly, interpret data, and encourage high achievement.
Educational Commitment: Dedication to equality, school values, CPD, and supporting vulnerable students. Commitment to developing ICT skills and fostering partnerships with home and community.
