3 Month Contract With A Local Authority
Job Summary:
As a Street Cleaning Operative, you will be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, safety, and appearance of public spaces including streets, pavements, parks, and town centres. This role plays a vital part in keeping the local environment clean and pleasant for residents and visitors.
Key Responsibilities:
* Carry out daily litter picking on designated routes including streets, parks, and public areas.
* Operate mechanical sweepers, hand carts, leaf blowers, or other equipment safely and efficiently.
* Empty public litter bins and replace liners as required.
* Remove fly-posting, graffiti, and debris from public spaces.
* Report hazards, dumped rubbish (fly-tipping), damaged street furniture, or unsafe conditions to supervisors.
* Use appropriate manual handling techniques and wear all required personal protective equipment (PPE).
* Follow route maps and daily schedules provided by the supervisor.
* Respond politely and helpfully to queries from members of the public.
* Assist in emergency clean-up operations following events, accidents, or severe weather.
* Ensure correct disposal of waste in accordance with council or company guidelines.
* Work independently or as part of a team in all weather conditions.
Requirements:
* Good level of physical fitness – ability to walk long distances and carry out manual tasks.
* Awareness of health & safety and safe working practices.
* Ability to follow schedules and instructions with minimal supervision.
* Reliable, punctual, and self-motivated.
* Previous experience in street cleansing or environmental services (desirable but not essential).
