Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and experienced professional with an established interest in safeguarding adults to join our divisional team to provide specialist safeguarding adult and mental capacity advice across our Mental Health services in Milton Keynes.

The overall purpose of this role is to ensure the Trust meets its organisational, national and local requirements and responsibilities in Safeguarding vulnerable people, Mental Capacity Act (MCA) and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS). This includes meeting the Safeguarding Standards under the Safe domain by the CQC This will be achieved by providing highly developed specialist knowledge on safeguarding issues, MCA and Prevent. The Named Professional will provide consultancy to staff at all levels within the Division and at times across the Trust.

The postholder will provide leadership and assurance across the field of adult safeguarding and will work closely with other specialists, named and designated professionals. The postholder will lead on all activity required to ensure that the Directorate meet their safeguarding responsibilities so that Safeguarding is seen as paramount and that a culture of dignity and safeguarding is embedded across the organisation in line with Making Safeguarding Personal.

To provide cover for safeguarding colleagues across the Trust, as required.

Main duties of the job

Provide expert up to date advice, training and supervision to professionals working in safeguarding within Milton Keynes based CNWL services.

1. To support the Division by involvement and at times leading on CNWL’s contribution to Domestic Homicide Reviews (DHRs), Safeguarding Adult Reviews (SARs) and local learning reviews and focused work in specific areas/services, authoring reports when best placed to do and leading on action plans where appropriate.
2. Monitoring and ensuring that action plans resulting from investigations/areas of concern are implemented and embedded within the timescales in partnership with operational managers.
3. To ensure that key learning from safeguarding is disseminated across the Division and the Trust. To ensure that plans are in place for dissemination of findings from and develop effective auditing arrangements for demonstrating how recommendations are embedded within practice. Take responsibility for writing Clinical Messages of the Week and 7-minute briefings when required.
4. To support the review and implementation of safeguarding adults and Mental Capacity Act (and other related) policies and procedures.”

Diggory Division, where this role is based, provides addictions services, sexual health services, health and justice services and, In Milton Keynes, in-patient and community Mental Health services, and community services such as District Nursing.

Promoting and developing Safeguarding Adults – Professional Practice

·To provide safeguarding expertise and advice on complex cases within the Division, offering consultancy at Board and front-line level on aspects of safeguarding a the Mental Capacity Act (MCA) and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS) legislation and Prevent.

·Communicate a range of highly complex, sensitive and contentious topics to a range of professionals in varying situations.

·Provide expert up to date advice, training and supervision to professionals working in safeguarding within Milton Keynes based CNWL services.

·To support the Division by involvement and at times leading on CNWL’s contribution to Domestic Homicide Reviews (DHRs), Safeguarding Adult Reviews (SARs) and local learning reviews and focused work in specific areas/services, authoring reports when best placed to do and leading on action plans where appropriate.
