Overview
A new opportunity has arisen for a suitably qualified, HCPC registered Specialist Biomedical Scientist with significant experience in a Haematology/Blood Transfusion laboratory. The post is based in the Haematology/Blood Transfusion department at Forth Valley Royal Hospital, Larbert. Experience with Sysmex or Grifol analysers will be advantageous.
Active participation in CPD and opportunities for further study are supported and encouraged. You will be employed to work shifts over 7 days, which include public holidays, evenings, weekends, and overnight shifts as required by the needs of the service. The department is busy, well equipped, and provides Haematology and Blood Transfusion support to the Acute Hospital, Community Hospitals and General Practice in Forth Valley. The department is UKAS Accredited against ISO15189:2022 and generally compliant with the Blood Safety and Quality Regulations.
Responsibilities
* Provide Haematology and Blood Transfusion laboratory services in a busy department.
* Engage in in-house training and CPD activities as required; participate in professional development and potential further study opportunities.
* Ensure compliance with PVG scheme requirements (Protecting Vulnerable Groups) as part of the role.
* Work shifts that include evenings, weekends, public holidays, and overnight periods as needed by service requirements.
Qualifications and Experience
* HCPC registered Specialist Biomedical Scientist.
* Significant experience in Haematology and/or Blood Transfusion laboratories.
* Experience with Sysmex or Grifol analysers is advantageous.
* IBMS Specialist portfolio in Haematology or Blood Transfusion is advantageous; if HCPC registered but without a portfolio, completion is required in addition to in-house training prior to progression to Band 6; salary details align with Annex 21 of a Band 6 in line with the A4C Terms and Conditions.
Additional Information
* As from 1/4/26, the Agenda for Change full-time working week will reduce from 37 to 36 hours per week; part-time hours will be pro-rata with a corresponding increase in hourly rate so pay is not affected.
