We are offering a fantastic opportunity to join our friendly and supportive, Housing Standards Team where you can use your experience and skills to make a real difference.
You will be given every opportunity to take on responsibility and make full use of your technical knowledge. You will have a varied and challenging case load, advising landlords on property conditions and energy efficiency, providing support and guidance to tenants, whilst also tackling those who flout the law.
The role includes:
• Inspections of private rented dwellings
• Identifying hazards and housing disrepair under the Housing Health and Safety Rating System (HHSRS)
• Licensing of Houses in Multiple Occupation
• Supporting the team in enforcing housing standards and taking appropriate action
• Liaising with landlords, tenants and other stakeholders
• Preparing reports and maintaining accurate records.
About you:
The successful candidates will be a confident professional with excellent organisational skills. As Derby City has a wide and diverse population, you must have good communication and negotiation skills as you will be dealing with a mixed audience of residents, landlords, partner agencies and other stakeholders. It is essential you have a good understanding of current housing legislation and possess excellent verbal and written communication skills and be able to demonstrate the ability to maintain clear and accurate records.
You will need:
1. Possession of a degree in Environmental Health or equivalent
or
2. Possession of one of the following:
• CIEH approved Higher Certificate in Housing Practice
• CIEH approved Diploma in Housing Enforcement
• Successfully completed a Level 4 Regulatory Compliance Officer (Housing) Apprenticeship
• BTech in Environmental Health
• HNC level qualification in building construction / surveying
Or be working towards completion of one of the above.
3. Relevant experience in the standards of housing in the private rented sector
A full driving licence and use of a car is essential.
