General Accountant – Remote/Flexible Hours, Central London Beauty Brand

Working closely with the CEO, the successful candidate will become a trusted financial partner responsible for overseeing a broad range of accounting and finance functions, ensuring financial accuracy, compliance, and operational efficiency across the business.
About the Role
Scope of Services
Financial Reporting
* Preparation of monthly and year-end management reports and financial statements
* Production of Balance Sheet, Profit & Loss, cash flow and KPI reporting using Excel
* Supporting the CEO with financial analysis and reporting to aid strategic decision-making
Tax Compliance
* Preparation and submission of Corporation Tax returns and year-end filings
* Preparation and submission of VAT returns
* Ensuring ongoing compliance with HMRC and financial regulations
Payroll Support
* Payroll processing and administration
* Preparation of payslips and P45s
* Managing statutory filings, deductions, benefits administration, PAYE and pension auto-enrolment requirements
Bookkeeping & Financial Administration
* Day-to-day bookkeeping and maintenance of accurate financial records
* Accounts payable and receivable management
* Bank reconciliations and invoice processing
* Maintaining and reconciling the general ledger
Candidate Requirements
* Minimum 5 years’ proven accounting experience within an SME environment
* Experience working within businesses with turnover exceeding £5m and approximately 50 employees
* Relevant professional accounting qualification preferred (ACCA, ACA, CPA or equivalent)
* Strong understanding of accounting standards, compliance and financial controls
* Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
* Retail, beauty or comparable industry experience preferred
* Comfortable working autonomously and taking full ownership of the finance function
* High level of discretion with strong controls around confidentiality, data protection and secure document handling
* Strong Excel and accounting systems experience essential
Salary / Fee
Competitive salary or consultancy fee dependent on experience.
Role based on approximately 20–30 hours per week, with flexibility to agree either a monthly or annual rate.
