The Opportunity
Stantec is working on many of the world’s largest, complex and most exciting dams and hydro projects. We are rapidly growing and seek a Principal Mechanical Engineer to join our dynamic team, working on the design and development of cutting-edge hydropower and pumped storage hydro solutions. It is a great opportunity to join a growing multi-disciplinary team involved in projects such as Coire Glas (Scotland), Koysha (Ethiopia), and Dinorwig (Wales). Our Mechanical Engineers are responsible for the mechanical engineering elements of solutions and the production of associated outline and detailed designs to support successful project delivery. Roles vary by experience and qualifications and may be based within the hydropower team with support for other sectors including Water and Thermal projects.
In this role you will work closely with the Client as part of a multi-disciplinary design group to undertake technical audits and risk evaluations, develop mechanical design, and liaise with other disciplines at feasibility, outline and detailed stages to produce timely and cost-effective solutions. You will develop cost-effective and innovative design solutions aligned with the Client’s requirements.
Responsibilities
* Develop mechanical engineering elements of solutions and produce outline and detailed designs to support project delivery.
* Work with clients and a multi-disciplinary team to perform technical audits, risk evaluations and liaise with other disciplines at feasibility, outline and detailed stages.
* Develop cost-effective and innovative mechanical design solutions aligned with client requirements.
About You / Qualifications
* Chartered or Incorporated status with the IMechE is preferred or working towards.
* Degree qualified (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering or related subject.
* Ability to plan and prioritise workload effectively.
* Experience in design and specification of mechanical systems in an industrial context.
* Experience with rotating machinery.
* Knowledge of planning, specification, design, procurement and commissioning of mechanical equipment for energy projects.
* Ideally proficient with 3D modelling software (e.g., Revit or AutoCAD) and BIM environments; experience in hydropower applications; experience with pump and large-bore valve specification and selection; familiarity with balance of plant and typical hydropower systems (HVAC, cooling water, oil recovery, hydraulic control, governors, fire suppression, mechanical services).
