This role is an exciting opportunity for an experienced electrical engineer with knowledge of high, medium, low and extra‑low voltage electrical systems and equipment to join the Environment Agency’s Standards and Engineering team as a Senior Electrical Engineer. A background in control systems design and SCADA / telemetry systems would be beneficial.
Responsibilities
As part of the Technical Authority, you will provide technical engineering leadership and support to the whole organisation to meet our objectives of safe, reliable and sustainable assets and meet our commitments to net zero carbon.
* Manage, develop and maintain electrical engineering standards, including electrical safety rules for HV, LV power systems and control systems within assets such as pumping stations, water management and flood defence structures and monitoring sites.
* Develop, deliver and maintain competency and skills guidance for all employees managing or carrying out work on our electrical systems and equipment.
* Hold a national incident response role (may include out‑of‑hours duties).
Experience and Skills Required
* A good working knowledge of the Electricity at Work regulations and BS 7671 IET wiring regulations.
* Knowledge of control systems, including IEC 61508, IEC 62061 and BS EN 13489, and telemetry / SCADA systems.
* Knowledge of high and low voltage generation and distribution systems.
* Experience in developing and delivering Safe systems of work, risk assessments and method statements.
* Testing and isolation of high and low voltage electrical systems and proving dead.
* Strong understanding of a risk‑based approach to electrical maintenance philosophies and implementation, including Failure Mode Effects Analysis and reliability systems.
* Drafting and publishing of electrical policy, instructions and guidance.
* Excellent work management, team working and communication skills.
Additional Information
This is a hybrid role; we will allocate a base location near to your home. Some travel and overnight stays may be required. We provide appropriate training and support for incident management objectives.
