Job Title: Collections Services Project Manager Do you enjoy high-level planning and project delivery? Do you have an understanding of collections management? As a Collections Services Project Manager, you will work across a range of projects within the Science Museum Group, primarily focusing on the Northern Museums: Science and Industry Museum, Manchester; National Science and Media Museum, Bradford; and National Railway Museum, York.
You will be part of the Collections Services Project Management Team, responsible for scoping, planning, and implementing programs that involve Conservation & Collections Care, Digitisation (Documentation and Photography), and Registration teams. Projects include new exhibitions, supporting masterplan capital and estates initiatives, and digitising collections.
This role offers hybrid working with a minimum of 2-3 days onsite, with periods requiring regular onsite presence to fulfill responsibilities.
Candidate Profile We seek an experienced, highly organized project manager with a good understanding of collections management and care within the museum or heritage sector. Applications from candidates with comparable experience in sectors where managing collections is key are also welcome.
Key skills include delivering complex collections projects, planning schedules, managing budgets, coordinating resources, and meeting deadlines. Excellent communication skills for engaging with stakeholders and collaboration across teams are essential. The ability to plan effectively, identify risks, and write clear specifications is required, along with experience managing contractors, costings, and resources.
Proficiency in Excel and data presentation is essential. Practical knowledge of UK Health and Safety related to manual handling and collections hazard management is necessary. Experience with MS Project or tender preparation is beneficial but not essential. A shared commitment to open, inclusive practice is vital.
