Job Description
3 months contract with a Local Authority
Job Summary:
• An exciting interim opportunity has arisen for a qualified Occupational Therapist (SO2 level) to join a dynamic, multi-disciplinary community social care team working with both adults and children.
• The role involves complex case management, care coordination, and delivering person-centred occupational therapy interventions aimed at promoting independence and supporting well-being within a community setting.

Key Duties/Accountabilities (Sample):
• Manage a caseload with varied levels of complexity, acting as care coordinator where appropriate
• Undertake occupational therapy assessments and interventions using evidence-based practice
• Carry out Mental Capacity Assessments in line with the Mental Capacity Act 2005
• Implement the Care Act 2014 across all aspects of practice
• Work collaboratively with professionals such as social workers, physiotherapists, and district nurses
• Refer and liaise with internal and external services, including mental health and children's services
• Monitor risk and support individuals to maintain independence and choice
• Advise and support junior staff (if operating at higher grade) and contribute to staff training
• Ensure compliance with financial procedures when allocating individual budgets or services
• Maintain accurate, legally compliant records and documentation
• Actively promote personalisation, reablement, and self-directed support principles
• Contribute to safeguarding adults and supporting carers in line with statutory responsibilities

Skills/Experience:
• Substantial post-qualification experience in adult social care or similar setting
• Proven ability to assess needs, develop care plans, and implement therapeutic interventions
• Strong understanding of Care Act 2014, Mental Capacity Act, and safeguarding legislation
• Knowledge of the impact of disability and illness in diverse cultural and social contexts
• Experience working jointly with health colleagues and external agencies
• Ability to work independently and exercise sound professional judgement
• Excellent communication, report writing, IT, and case recording skills
• Skills in negotiation, advocacy, mediation, and partnership working
• Experience supporting staff, delivering training, or acting as a practice educator (for higher grades)
• Commitment to continuous professional development and evidence-based practice
• Willingness to undertake Best Interest Assessor training (if not already qualified)

Additional Information:
• Hours: 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday (9:00–17:00).
• DBS Clearance: Enhanced DBS required.
