Consumer Lawyer - Brands, Product and Technology
We are looking for a smart, practical and enthusiastic consumer/commercial lawyer to join Expedia Group’s global Legal and Corporate Affairs team.
This is a great opportunity to work on a wide range of matters with the product and technology teams to help build consumer-facing websites and apps that inspire and engage travelers and deliver exceptional products, services and experiences to our customers.
You will join the Brands, Product and Technology legal team advising from a UK/EU perspective on consumer and commercial issues, website and app displays and content, process and functions. This will include leading on areas such as display requirements for key lines of business and on the end-to-end customer search and booking processes. You’ll also be front line in assisting with certain customer service and regulatory compliance matters for the UK/EU.
The role will be based in Expedia’s Central London office, reporting to a London-based Senior Director.

What you’ll do:
* Work with Expedia Group Brands and Product teams providing advice, guidance and training for key business stakeholders on a wide range of consumer, ecommerce, travel and regulatory legal matters.
* Collaborate with other key internal legal partners such as privacy, Government Affairs, IP and tax.
* Manage outside legal counsel including working to budgets.
* Assist in monitoring UK/ European regulations that impact the Expedia Group portfolio of travel brands and help implement these where needed.
You will have a focus on:
* UK/EU review of website and app display for various lines of business such as flight, car, cruise, activities and coordinating colleagues in global reviews of these.
* Providing calm and timely escalation support to customer service and PR teams and other business leaders, including in response to global events impacting travel.
* As a part of an established team, advising in relation to sanctions compliance programmes.
* Reviewing and updating internal policies and playbooks in relation to the above.
Who you are:
* You have a proven track record of advising on consumer, ecommerce and regulatory matters with a practical and confident commercial approach to problem solving and managing legal risk.
* You have strong communication and legal skills to facilitate becoming a trusted partner of the business team. You should have a can-do attitude, be solutions-focussed and be interested in looking for opportunities to take the initiative.
* You have excellent analytical skills and proven ability to assess key risks and communicate complex concepts and risks directly and clearly to a variety of audiences.
* You have an interest in innovative technology and a willingness to learn and integrate into a dynamic and fast-paced tech businesses.
* You can demonstrate you are highly organized with an ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects and effectively navigate varied and fluid timelines and project goals.
* You can demonstrate an ability to work with minimal supervision and use outside counsel within agreed budgets.
* You are a lawyer qualified to practice in the UK with 5 years+ experience with a top law firm or working in a dynamic in-house legal environment.
* Business fluent in English.
