Key Purpose
To provide an inspiring and best practice careers service throughout Harris Church of England Academy.
To offer effective and impartial advice, guidance, and support for all year groups regarding subject options, future study, and career choices.
To develop, implement, and review a strategic plan guiding the policies, plans, targets, and practices of the Careers Department.
Accountabilities
The appointee will be line managed by the School Business Manager.
Principal Responsibilities
* Conduct individual careers interviews with pupils across all year groups.
* Organize careers questionnaires, guide students in using the academy’s Careers Software, facilitate psychometric testing, and provide feedback.
* Offer guidance on subject choices, including A Levels and other courses.
* Distribute careers information through printed literature, digital communications, and displays.
* Assist pupils with application forms, interview techniques, and presentation skills.
* Build a network of specialist partners for targeted guidance.
* Contribute innovatively to the PSSHE programme throughout the school.
* Attend Parents’ Evenings and actively promote careers during school assemblies, Information Evenings, and Open Days.
* Maintain records, monitor pupil progress, and generate reports/statistics as needed.
* Organize and promote work experience opportunities.
* Collaborate with local employers and organizations to set up placements, conduct pre-placement visits, ensure legal compliance, and support students during placements.
* Prepare students, debrief post-placement, and encourage evaluation and thank-you letters.
* Engage with external careers services and support relevant careers initiatives.
* Stay informed on best practices through research, training, and networking.
* Prepare for and pursue the Investors In Careers award for the academy.
* Develop and maintain a school alumni network.
* Track progress of current leavers and engage past students as mentors, speakers, and role models.
* Develop a strategic plan for the academy’s careers provision and evaluate its effectiveness.
* Apply for relevant awards for the school.
