Job overview The post holder will play a central role in ensuring the delivery of high quality, safe, and compassionate care, and in driving operational excellence and service improvement across both specialties. You will work closely with the Associate General Manger, Clinical Leads, Clinical Nurse Specialists, and senior colleagues across the Trust to deliver national and local performance standards, improve patient pathways, and support service transformation. Main duties of the job The Service Manager is a key management role and is responsible for the operational delivery of all aspects of the service areas across the Whipps Cross Site, Key aims are: • Provide timely, efficient and effective operational service management support for all specialities within surgery, assisting the Clinical Director, Lead Clinicians and General Manager to ensure that these services are responsive, innovative and provided to the highest possible clinical and performance standards. • Take forward agreed projects to improve service delivery and patient experience in key areas. • Lead on ensuring that all performance/quality targets are met. • Problem solve as appropriate, and develop and implement lasting solutions in conjunction with clinical colleagues. To be a key member of the Division's Tier 3 Management Team, taking full responsibility for actions and for keeping other team members fully informed at all times. Person specification Experience Essential criteria Evidence of operational management experience in a busy service environment including managing teams, services, or processes. Experience coordinating workloads and resources to meet service objectives and deadlines. Experience monitoring performance and taking corrective action. Evidence of leading service improvement initiatives from identification through to implementation and evaluation Experience managing staff performance, wellbeing, and development, and motivating teams to deliver objectives. Desirable criteria Experience managing large teams including workforce planning and performance management. Experience of budget management including monitoring expenditure and ensuring financial compliance. Experience using hospital systems such as PAS/EPR. Experience contributing to or leading cross-organisational or Trust-wide projects. Skills Essential criteria Ability to analyse complex data and present information clearly for different audiences. Ability to communicate complex or sensitive information to a range of stakeholders. Experience developing and implementing new ways of working. Ability to manage competing priorities and deliver outcomes within deadlines. Proficiency in IT systems such as MS Office, Excel, and databases for analysis and reporting. Evidence of resilience and ability to manage pressure while supporting others. Desirable criteria Advanced Excel or data analysis skills. Experience leading or supporting change management initiatives. Experience contributing to clinical governance or quality improvement activities. Knowledge Essential criteria Knowledge of key issues affecting NHS acute services including patient flow, performance targets, workforce and financial pressures Ability to apply knowledge to evaluate and improve service quality. Desirable criteria Experience developing or contributing to business cases and supporting implementation Qualifications Essential criteria Educated to degree level in any subject (or equivalent qualification) or demonstrable evidence of working towards this. Desirable criteria Recognised management qualification (e.g. ILM, CMI) or equivalent management experience. Other Essential criteria Ability to present complex information clearly including chairing meetings. Ability to interpret complex information and translate into actionable insight. Demonstrates innovation in improving services or processes Visa Sponsorship Information This role is subject to UK immigration requirements.
