Field Service Engineer - UK Wide with Extensive Travel
We are seeking a dedicated and highly flexible Field Service Engineer to join our dynamic team. This role is crucial for providing exceptional technical support, maintenance, and installation services for essential healthcare equipment in care homes across the UK. Due to the nature of our client base and geographical spread, this position involves significant travel, extensive driving, and regular overnight stays. We are looking for a proactive problem-solver who thrives on the road, can work independently, and is committed to ensuring customer satisfaction, even if it means working beyond standard hours.
Ideal Candidate
* Embraces Travel: Is genuinely comfortable with and enjoys extensive driving, often up to 8 hours a day in the provided company van.
* Is Prepared for Regular Overnight Stays: This role requires frequent overnight accommodation (hotel stays), estimated to be on average 8 nights per month. Breakfast, dinner, and a £20 per night allowance are provided. If you do not enjoy driving or staying in hotels on a regular basis, this role is not for you.
* Is Highly Flexible with Working Hours: Our commitment to care homes means being prepared to work beyond scheduled shifts, including overtime, weekends, and Bank Holidays, to ensure critical jobs are completed. The scheduled shift is 9 hours a day, 5 days a week, but flexibility is paramount.
* Is based near/in the area of: Birmingham, Milton Keynes, Bedford, Luton, or Banbury, and surrounding areas. Offering excellent access to key road networks for efficient travel across the country.
* Has experience in the care home industry.
* Is familiar with LOLER & PUWER of equipment, manual and electrical lifting aids, hoists, slings, specialist assisted baths, biometric and profiling beds, and similar devices.
* Offers technical support to clients and assists fellow engineers.
Key Responsibilities
* Maintenance and Repairs: Perform planned preventative maintenance on equipment such as hoists, beds, baths, shower trolleys, and scales, ensuring compliance with LOLER 1998.
* Conduct weight tests during maintenance where required.
* Respond to breakdowns and callouts, diagnosing issues and carrying out mechanical or electrical repairs to restore functionality.
* Install a range of equipment, including ceiling-mounted hoists, specialist baths, adjustable-height changing plinths, and wall-mounted systems.
* Set up and plumb basic laundry dosing systems as necessary.
Training and Client Support
* Train clients on the safe use and maintenance of equipment.
* Provide guidance on legal compliance and fault prevention strategies.
* Offer technical support to clients and in-house engineers.
Communication and Client Interaction
* Professionally address client queries and concerns, providing updates on repair and maintenance activities.
* Collaborate with internal teams to enhance service delivery.
Compliance and Record-Keeping
* Adhere to all health, safety, and legal regulations during maintenance and installations.
* Maintain accurate service records, documenting repairs, installations, and client interactions.
Travel and Scheduling
* Travel extensively across the UK as needed, including frequent overnight stays, to meet service demands and cover the geographical area spanning London, the South East, East Anglia, and the Midlands, with occasional travel to the South West.
* Use SimPro and other software to manage schedules, order parts, and document service outcomes.
* Stay updated on industry standards, regulations, and training requirements.
* Participate in ongoing professional development to uphold high service standards.
Skills and Qualifications
* Proficiency in diagnostic tools and software (training provided).
* Exceptional communication and customer service skills.
* Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic, field-based environment.
* Demonstrated flexibility and adaptability to extensive travel, variable hours, and overnight stays.
* Previous experience in a field service role is beneficial but not essential.
