Position title: Community Outreach Worker ​ Hours of work: 18 hours a week. ​ Salary: £13,169.52 ​ Please complete an application form to apply for this role we do not accept CVs. Interview date: Monday 29th June or Friday 3rd July ​ About the role This role requires someone who is proactive and adaptable to situations. You will be comfortable initiating conversations and building trust quickly. This role is key to representing the organisation with clients and stakeholders, acting as entry point for our Information and Advice service. You will work flexibility to cover talks and events to represent and promote the organisation This will involve working from home and in the community across Norfolk at various locations. Please note, due to the nature of this role and the associated travel time and mileage reimbursement. Along with the requirement to attend the office to restock event supplies, applications will only be considered from those living in Norwich and surrounding areas, or centrally in the county. Expenses are reimbursed. Full training will be provided. Enhanced DBS required. Full driving licence and access to car required. Detailed duties and responsibilities: To provide outreach services across the county in various formats including one off talks (which may be topic based) and events and regular outreach provision face to face or online if required To provide information and signposting to older people, their carers and professionals by a variety of means including telephone, face to face written and IT communication including triaging for services To refer clients into the advice team as appropriate for follow up work, having an awareness of our core advice areas and services To complete form filling on occasion with the case being held by a trained adviser To maintain accurate records in accordance with audit procedures and funder requirement. To work collaboratively with partner organisations ensuring that appropriate signposting is undertaken and consent obtained. To create and build on relationships within the outreach community to ensure our service delivery is meeting the needs of the places we serve To use approved and relevant resources to support the information given To work as part of the wider organisation in a collaborative way to share best practice and to promote and refer to other Services when appropriate. General: To act as an ambassador for Age UK Norfolk To participate in the appraisal scheme and undertake training appropriate to the development of your job role and in line the Organisation’s statutory obligations To work to the agreed standards and policies of the Organisation including public relations; equal opportunities; confidentiality; complaints procedure; personnel and financial procedures. To carry out other duties that are consistent with the duties and responsibilities of the post. Person Specification ​ Essential Criteria Desirable Criteria Education and Experience A high level of written and verbal English and Maths ​ The post holder will have experience of dealing with people who have more complicated life challenges ​ A good understanding of the needs and issues affecting Older People from a wide range of backgrounds and communities. ​ ​ ​ ​ Previous experience of working with older people Experience of talks and events including working in public places Previous experience of working with vulnerable people of any age ​ Experience of Social care and/or Welfare Benefits ​ Experience in an advisory service preferably working directly with Older People ​ Knowledge of the Advice Quality Standard and the importance of proving accredited information and advice ​ Key Skills and abilities Excellent Communication skills with a proven ability to communication with older people who have communication barriers. ​ Ability to prioritise and plan work; take responsibility in decision making, be very well organised and work independently to meet deadlines. ​ ​ Ability to be solution focussed when encountering obstacles as part of day-to-day work. ​ Ability to work under pressure. ​ ​ Ability to use Microsoft packages e.g. word, Outlook and basic database systems. ​ Personal Attributes Good listening ​ Flexible approach ​ Committed to working with older vulnerable people ​ Empathetic ​ Self-motivated ​ Passion to support vulnerable People ​ ​ Other Requirements This post is classed as having a high degree of contact with vulnerable adults and is exempt from the rehabilitation of offenders’ act 1974. As a regulated activity, an enhanced disclosure will be sought through the Disclosure and Barring Service as part of Age UK Norfolk employment checks. ​ Ability to travel independently across Norfolk.
