About The Role
Senior Speech & Language Therapist – Acute Adults (Band 6), part‑time. Two part‑time Band 6 posts are available to work across the acute inpatient wards at Pinderfields and Dewsbury, providing high‑quality assessment and management for adults with communication and swallowing difficulties.
Key Responsibilities
* Deliver high‑quality assessment, diagnosis and treatment of communication and swallowing disorders in an acute setting.
* Manage a varied and clinically stimulating caseload, including elderly care & dementia, respiratory, gastroenterology, neurological conditions, ICU step‑downs and more.
* Work collaboratively across wards with the redeployed team, ensuring responsive, patient‑centred care.
* Coordinate closely with community SLT colleagues to facilitate smooth transitions and safe discharge pathways.
* Provide clinical education and supervision to Band 5 SLTs, students and assistants.
* Lead relevant projects for the SLT service and contribute to audit, quality improvement and pathway development.
* Support early discharge schemes and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to reduce unscheduled admissions.
Qualifications and Experience
* Recognised Speech & Language Therapy degree qualification or equivalent.
* Licence to Practice and registration with the Health Care Professions Council.
* Evidence of successful completion of relevant short courses in dysphagia and acquired communication disorders.
* Completion of RCSLT Newly Qualified competencies and certificate.
