We're seeking a passionate and highly experienced Environmental Impact Assessment consultant at Technical Director level to lead our water sector major projects EIA advice and delivery across the UK and Ireland.
The successful candidate will work collaboratively with colleagues across the UK and island of Ireland and be responsible for technical oversight and governance for water sector EIA development projects, reporting into our UK&I Environmental Advisory, Assessment and Planning discipline lead. You will work with the discipline lead to set strategic direction and to help deliver the Environmental Assessment Training Academy, a funded learning programme intended to enhance capability and capacity in the business. You will work alongside our existing practitioners and champion further growth and capability strengthening. You will also have the opportunity to work on a variety of non-EIA projects and programmes with significant environmental components and will enjoy the level of autonomy appropriate to this environmental leadership role.
Responsibilities
* Lead our water sector major projects EIA advice and delivery across the UK and Ireland, providing technical oversight and governance for EIA development projects.
* Report into the UK&I Environmental Advisory, Assessment and Planning discipline lead and work with the discipline lead to set strategic direction.
* Help deliver the Environmental Assessment Training Academy to enhance capability and capacity in the business.
* Collaborate with existing practitioners and champion growth and capability strengthening.
* Engage in a variety of non-EIA projects and programmes with significant environmental components and exercise appropriate autonomy for an environmental leadership role.
* Demonstrate substantial experience (20+ years) in strategic environmental advice and EIA delivery (screening, consultation, scoping, ES) and build strong stakeholder and regulator relationships.
* Apply broad understanding of environmental constraints management and EIA, with potential specialisms to complement existing teams.
* Understand terrestrial consenting regimes; experience in marine environment and marine consenting is advantageous.
About You
* Hold an environmental or related degree and be chartered (e.g., CIWEM, CIEEM, or IEMA).
* Have a strong understanding of the UK environmental consulting market and the entrepreneurial, commercial acumen to grow teams within a collaborative environment.
* Demonstrated experience in the regulated water industry and a passion for delivering innovative, high-quality solutions as a leader.
* People-oriented with experience leading multi-disciplinary teams and mentoring and managing people and project teams.
* Broad EIA technical and legislative knowledge with depth in at least one environmental area (e.g., ecology, landscape, or coastal/marine).
* Experience with EIA within the DCO process and Strategic Environmental Assessment is helpful but not essential.
