Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) - Transition Pool

Program Overview
* 8‑week orientation program designed for your success:
o First 4 weeks: Medicine/Surgical unit with a consistent mentor to build your foundation.
o Next 10 shifts: Rotate through specialized units including Sills 3 (Acute Stroke/Rehab), Sills 4 (Complex Continuing Care), BSTU (Behavioral Support), TCU (Transitional Care Unit), Trenton In‑Patient Unit, and Picton In‑Patient Unit.
o After a few months, once confident and comfortable, you’ll complete Emerge orientation—2 weeks in Belleville’s Emergency Department and 2 weeks in Trenton’s Emergency Department.

Required
* Current Certificate of Registration in good standing, or eligible for registration from the College of Nurses of Ontario.
* Current CPR, BLS, or BCLS certificate.
* Capable of coping with a physically demanding workload. (Physical Demands Analysis available to review.)
Duties
* Provision of care for patients within an interprofessional environment, including assessment, treatment, teaching and education.
* Performs acts requiring specialized knowledge, skills and judgement necessary for care of acute medical patients.
* Teaching and coaching to patients and families.
* Maintains nursing records in accordance with College of Nurses Standards.
* Practicing in compliance with provincial legislation, hospital policy and procedures, professional regulatory standards and best practices within the nursing profession.
* Maintaining professional competence by completing regular professional development including annual training and education as indicated.
* Participates in unit/dept. and hospital quality improvement initiatives.
* Adheres to a safe and healthy workplace and maintains a safe and healthy work environment through attendance at educational programs, use of established mechanisms for injuries and hazards and adheres to health and safety related policy and procedures.
* Adapts and adheres to the values of Quinte Health while promoting and advocating for an enhanced patient experience.
* Other duties as assigned.
Physical Demands
Strength
* Required sporadically – average under 30 pounds lifting, carrying, and pushing/pulling.
* Required in extreme emergency – 100 pounds.
Mobility
* Required often – standing.
* Required frequently – sitting, walking, on hard floor surface.
* Required occasionally – stooping, lateral bending, foot activation, kneeling, bending.
* Required rarely – crouching, squatting.
Dexterity
* Required frequently – both hands for reaching, reaching above shoulder, fine finger movement, foot action, pinching, gripping/grasping, and eye/hand coordination.
