The Role
We are looking for an experienced Infrastructure Engineer with strong expertise in Fortinet / FortiGate firewalls and VMware vCenter to join a dynamic IT infrastructure team.
You will play a key role in maintaining, securing, and optimising the organisation’s network and virtual infrastructure environment, ensuring high availability, performance, and resilience across business-critical systems.
This role offers a mix of BAU support and project-based work, including infrastructure upgrades, security enhancements, and virtualisation improvements.
Key Responsibilities
* Design, implement, and support Fortinet / FortiGate firewalls and security appliances
* Manage firewall policies, VPNs (IPSec/SSL), NAT, VLANs, and routing protocols
* Administer and maintain VMware vCenter and ESXi environments, including VM provisioning and host management
* Monitor and optimise virtual infrastructure performance and capacity
* Support network infrastructure including switching, routing, WAN/LAN, and SD-WAN
* Implement security best practices across network and virtual environments
* Provide 2nd/3rd line support for infrastructure and network incidents
* Support backup, disaster recovery, and high-availability configurations
* Maintain infrastructure documentation, diagrams, and configuration standards
* Contribute to infrastructure transformation and cloud integration initiatives
Required Experience
* Proven experience in an Infrastructure or Network Engineer role
* Strong hands-on experience with Fortinet / FortiGate firewalls
* Solid experience administering VMware vCenter and ESXi hosts
* Strong understanding of network security principles and firewall management
* Experience with Windows Server and Active Directory
* Knowledge of virtual networking within VMware environments
* Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills
Desirable Experience
* Fortinet certifications (e.g., NSE 4 or above)
* VMware certifications (e.g., VCP)
* Experience with hybrid cloud environments (Azure, AWS)
* Experience with backup solutions (e.g., Veeam)
* Automation or scripting experience (PowerShell, Python)
* Experience with monitoring or SIEM tools
